My view is never discuss politics in a pub or on a site like this as it will only end up in a slanging match between a few people whose ideals cannot be changed.
A heated debate and a few insults thrown is good for the spirit.
I like Kermy despite being directly opposed to him on many subjects.

Politics has been reduced to a red faced loony on the right, yelling Immigrant! Immigrant! and muttering, cuts to welfare state and NHS, and a red faced loony on the left shouting Inequality! Inequality! and muttering under his breath, IS aren't too bad, probably reasonable chaps if we sat and talked about it. Oh, an embarrassed looking Lib Dem in the middle begging someone to tell him what he should be yelling! Insanity on both sides. Big issue mate? Help the homeless to help themselves

I'm not touching that remark. On a more serious note. I notice that the BBS rarely even has threads about immigrants, Muslims or anything related now. It really is a sign that Britain's free speech is being suffocated by the liberal chattering classes with successive governments pulling the strings with their long standing propaganda war and laws.

Great thread and long overdue! Its important we root out all those individuals who display double standards. Like those who raise awareness against the patriarchy's constant demeaning of women in our society yet try to negate or deny the events in Cologne because it might portray immigration or multiculturalism in a bad light. Oh wait... what? Wrong thread? Sorry!!!!! Sorry, forget that, lets solely focus on the double standards of the right. Ah, perfect, carry on! Grrr!!! George Osbourne!

No- the Tories are taking up a pretty strongly right wing position (deregulation and soft touch on big business and financial services, If that's the case then Tony Blair and Gordon Brown must be Tories as it was those two that insisted that the banking regulators operate with a soft touch thus allowing the growth of loans by the banks to extremely poor credit risks thus precipitating the banking collapse in this country By the end of the last Labour government in 2010, there was no real difference between them and the Tories (at that point)- both had adopted a centre right position. I work in the financial services sector (NOT banking!) and absolutely agree that the soft touch regulation had a big role to play in the financial meltdown. The Tories talked the talk out of power and in coalition, but seem incapable of walking the walk now they have the power to do something about it. A few hefty contributions to Tory party coffers, a quiet word in ears at cosy old boy lunches, and nothing has been done- or will be. The FCA is even more toothless than the FSA it replaced.

This is exactly how a pary goes in and out of government. Most people have the memories of goldfish and before long they forget hw useless the previous government was and think it might be a good idea to vote them back in. Fortunately, in this case Corbyn ensured that won't happen for at least another term. If he makes it that far of course. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (08 Jan 2016 9.58pm)
