Part of the BBC's remit is to make programmes that AREN'T mainstream, that will only ever have a relatively small audience. Some bizarrely become quite big successes anyway (one man and his dog)whilst others just fade away.

I will always watch BBC news over Sky & ITV though they have slipped down the let's sensationalise everything path, they are nowhere near as bad as the others.

Some of the best comedies have come from the BBC, often via Radio 4.

I am a massive fan of the BBC, of course they turn out what I consider to be dross, but then we are all different.

The BBC has had a certain amount of creative freedom because for them, it isn't always about chasing viewing figures. If that changes (by making them a solely commercial enterprise) then you will see a lot more of the types of programmes you are bemoaning.

BBC output needs reviewing that's for sure but you could argue that about every channel. Difference being I guess the others aren't publicly funded to churn out their s***.

A step in the right direction is not to view every household chore as an opportunity for a competition.

I can only be a matter of time before we have a Great British Iron Off or Celebrity Hoovering.

None of the other channels or radio stations can offer anywhere near the same level of diversity and options that the BBC can put out, to users, for 145 a year compared to Sky, where as the basic Sky package will cost 250 plus per year.

Sure, you can get Live Football for extra on Sky, but have you actually watched the original programming, its f**king dire dross that makes Cooking Shows look well established.

I'm at a loss to remember much in the way of original programming done by Sky, where as BBC has been as broad as the weird, perverse and disturbed right through to high brow intellectual programming, original funded drama etc.

The BBC put out content that can compete with HBO's profile. No one else in broadcasting in the English language can present anywhere near the same level and diversity of content for the same price.

Not saying they don't - but the BBC differentiator from commercial TV was always quality. You can be as diverse as you like but without quality then it amounts to the root square of f*** all.

Year by year that quality diminishes imho - whether that's by ratings chasing or a need to make cheap crap television filler worthy of a Channel 5 or Sky.

For every one I Claudius there are now 5 Cash in your Attics or Snog, Marry, Avoids.

I would happily allow medical experiments to be carried out on CJ, Barry and Daphne.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I would dearly love to punch CJ hard in the face. More than winning the lottery or solving world poverty.
