The word "chic" has never been so misplaced.

Croydon and Woolwich - the two places I would never live even if it was rent free. Prison is probably a better quality of life.

I've lived in West Croydon for over 5 years now and can honestly say I've never had any trouble there.

Like anywhere if you are looking for trouble you'll find it. I firmly believe if you go about your business and don't look or act like a victim you won't become one.

I've never lived there but I still had my motorbike nicked from a mate's driveway who did.

Generally true of anywhere. Of course, you're a bit of an odd choice to start on as well.

Ahhhh (Nostalgic Sigh).....

I miss West Croydon.

There was time to get yourself a steak slice and a coffee from Greggs and not miss much of the action.

Fair play to those girls... they made a formidable tag-team!

Greggs!?
it would've been Ackermans, Chris.
There was another big chain of local bakers but cannot remember.
(or possibly the Lyons tea house in your day

Isn't the fight outside where Weatherspoons (Ship of fools) used to be?

Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season?

Don't get to the games as much as I'd like these days but last time I was in town and walking through Croydon I was amazed at some of the sights.

At one point, just across the road from the pool hall (I forget the name of the street), there's police dragging a young kid out of a brand new Mercedes Benz with guns and other kids running about crazy everywhere.

Even trying to have a conversation with the kids outside the pool hall about it was impossible, they had no respect and looked at me like I was an undercover police officer or something.

no, its more or less facing west croy. station, main entrance.
That KFC or Kentucky as we'd have called it has always been horrible.
Was one of the first 'establishments' I went in that was caged in toughened Perspex, due to the clientele, approx. late 80's.

that's west Croydon, facing the station.
bit rough.
Croydon is very diverse with its areas.
I have a lot of clients in the area, so in a 20 min. walk from Fairfield I can be in west Croydon, then another 30 min. walk back into south Croydon, which is very different.
10 mins north and you're in park hill,Lloyd park, coombe rd etc.
Croydon is already like a mini London and will be much more so once the massive regeneration build is complete.
just don't go to west cronx after dark, its great for food shopping, ingrediants etc during the day, but bad in the evening

Agree there are some very nice areas in south and eastern Croydon borough. However when most folk think of Croydon they think of the bit hit by arson and looting a few summers back. North of West Croydon station definitely to be avoided.

1. Less ethnic minorities?
2. More ethnic minorities?

Croydon is very mixed in general, TUX.
However the area sort of west/nth west Croydon but nearer to Mayday hospital has got very very high crime rates & a lot of it violent stuff.
Much of it is, for want of a better word 'black on black crime' caused by race differences.(ghanain-African for instance)
As I mentioned earlier, I often work in west croy.
& I go shopping there as the food stores are very diverse.
Daytimes fine, just mind your own business.
You'll get ANY difficult ingredient for cooking, however it got a bad vibe late at night & worth avoiding

I used to go to an Indian shop in W Croydon to buy jars of curry paste (i was a novice then). Hated going there but the paste was well worth it.
The last time we went shopping in Croydon was around 18yrs ago and tbh, i don't think i helped it's image one bit. Mrs.TUX on my left had a black-eye and our daughter on my right.............had one too!!!!!!! Needless to say i was getting some proper dirty looks.
It's a long story but i promise i was ony 'partly' to blame for one of them, honestly!

Time to move forward together.

On a longer version of the video the person filming pans around a few times and shows loads of people just watching this happen. If i witnessed fellas hitting women i would have to intervene. turns my stomach. Was in India and a shop owner slapped a female member of staff right in the face because she never heard him ask her to pass him something, She was a tiny thing and i took it upon myself to pass him a few things, mainly most of his stock that i threw at him.

Twenty years ago i would have agreed with you. But these days when you see a fight like that, its more than likely the woman started it.
In these cases, if the woman started it, and its obvious she has the capability to hurt you, then shes fair game.

I have seen a couple go that way myself in the past 10 years, even saw a woman knock out a guy with a sucker one punch, no she wasnt that big and he was average size.
If you know how to punch, even if your an average build girl, you can really hurt someone, just ask Ronda.
A friend of mine, she is so softly spoken, so nice and sweet, f goot 6, around 130 pounds, but if she got mugged in a dark alley by 2 guys, i would fear for their lives.

On the other hand, i also saw a guy slap his girlfriend pretty hard for nothing more than spilling his beer. When me and my mate tried to get involved, not only did his girlfriend come to his defense, but so did half the bar.
