Average film about a man almost knobbing his mother, followed by increasingly s**tier sequels.

For a less positive outlook, the Back to the Future essentially states that all outcomes are predetermined and that free will is an illusion. Only those capable of time travel have the capacity for free will, in so much as they can travel back in time to create changes.

Everyone else is otherwise acting out a clockwork play.

The flip side of that though is that you have no responsibility for your actions if they are predetermined. Therefore, knob your mum all you want, it was always going to happen.

Well, when I knobbed your mum, we certainly didn't get up to 88 mph.

No, she said you conked out and she had to call Green Flag.

We were interrupted by Libyans. Or possibly Lesbians. I forget which.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

From 1977 to 2011 it was plain green.

The science fiction idea of time travel is quite ridiculous.
The paradox problem means that reality cannot possibly be that way. Parallel time lines are one theoretical solution but in sci fi they usually get rather mixed up with what theory they are going with.

I think effectively its into 'singularity' situations, at least based on current knowledge (personally I tend towards the idea that its impossible to travel to previous times, or future times in that kind of manner - effectively you're getting outside of space-time dimensions and known physics.

I'm a huge fan of The films, as they are one of the few 'time travel' movies that actually manages the causality thing quite well.

Also, Surely for time travel to even be possible, a modicum of 'Everything is Fate' must be true? so it's not really the Films fault, but it's a consequence of Time travel. Unless, of course, you subscribe to the multiverse theory, which would get very messy very quickly - and wouldn't lend itself very well to a teen comedy

If you like 'Back to the Future' I heartedly recommend the magnificent cartoon, 'Rick and Morty'. Essentially its massively inspired by back to the future (but more about parallel dimensions). But effectively Doc Brown is a functioning alcoholic borderline sociopath, and Marty is his slightly retarded grandson.

Very strange, but wonderfully insane comedy.

Brilliantly mental stuff, by Dan Hammond (who invented Community). The end of episode 6 'Rick Potion number 9' is utterly brilliant and dark.

'Time travel' would be possible within the theorem of the Multiverse. a person could theorecically travel backwards in the timeline of their Universe.
Changes you make in that timeline would not 'alter' future timelines but instead Create many new 'futures' based on the changes the person made.
The larger issue is travelling forwards again, as you now have an infinite amount of universes to travel forward into, so if you managed to get back to the universe you came from, it'd be like hyou never went back in the first place.

Personally I do not adhere to any of it, what you do you do, it cannot be undone...There is not a universe in which I chose not to have breakfast this morning.

It would be very handy to be able to go back to Kos in 2002 to reacquaint myself with the young lady into whom I foolishly and over enthusiastically prematurely ejaculated.

To me, the multiverse theory kind of sounds like a 'this kind of fits easily to the science'. Of course if someone did travel back in time, change events etc, no one would ever be aware of it. The idea that every single event, not just decision, creates a different universe seems a bit 'excessive', given the sheer number of variables in our universe at any given moment.

I suspect that actual travelling backwards in time is for benders instead.
