Quote Tom-the-eagle at 28 Aug 2015 6.43pm

Just don't feel anything over this. Call me heartless, maybe I am, but there are enough people in the world with all kinds of troubles to feel sorry for a bunch of law breakers.

That's pretty cold Tom.

I'd like to think that what sets the rest of us above the heathens of this World is that we can show some humanity even if we do not approve of the people concerned.
I'm sure there are people out there who would make the World a better place by dying but I would not feel good about celebrating it and it is unlikely that these people are among that number.

Not celebrating Hrolf, just genuinely could not give a f@uck about them. I can tell you what I do care about, pensioners who have worked all their life but can’t afford to put on the heating, couples who both work full time, pay their taxes, but still can’t afford to buy their own homes, people who have contributed to society all their life but now have to wait months for an important operation, parents who live in one room with their child because there are no social houses available, etc etc etc etc, these are the things I care about Hrolf, not a bunch of criminals. I’m not celebrating mate – just non plus.

Had you down as a decent sort Tom so where that hideous, downright nasty type sh1te has emanated from I don't know.

There's a fair chance these people were just law-abiding normal folk going about their lives until some violent fvcked up society broke out all around them.

Probably a lot nicer and kinder than you or I in real life.

"Law abiding normal folk" who have intentionally illegally smuggled themselves across international borders. Maybe you and I have different opinions on what ‘law abiding’ actually means Kermit

See, without your previous post i would believe you were being sincere. But I am not quite sure how anyone can be so compassionate about some humans as above yet be be so utterly dis-compassionate about others and actually mean it. What do you think? Is it possible?

I meant in recent years until some evil maelstrom entered their lives to make them have to make such decisions regarding their's and their family's survival.

What would you do for your family Tom?

Same as me, right?

Absolutely anything.

How stupid must they be though?

500 people piling into an airtight refrigerated lorry?

They reckon most of them were dead within hours of setting off.

The boat travellers are just as stupid... they overload unseaworthy dinghies and float off with hardly any life saving equipment and babes in arms.

Yes it's tragic, but they'll keep making these decisions and paying criminal a fortune for the journey.

is "stupid" really the best word you can come up with? why would anyone do anything so stupid? b/c of outright desperation. it's the reason you go him with the ugly girl at closing time.

Didn't expect to laugh whilst looking at a thread about something so grim, so fair play

Have we really got to the stage where life is so cheap?

Immigration and the exodus through North Africa is complex and I have absolutely no idea what the answer is. I don't think for one moment we should just let everyone in but what sort of world just lets people die?

The people who talk about our once great country being diluted, it's being diluted by the the couldn't give a s*** about anyone else attitude that is so prevalent

Ok fair do's. Imagine a scenario back in 1944 but this time Hitler was winning had invaded GB, local community bombed and wrecked, and you and your family were in serious danger.

What's your exit strategy? Remember that Adolf is in control of all of western Europe.

you and your family survive. How?

That's fairly easy to answer Kermit, I would take my family, hide them away somewhere, leave England by any means how and set off to find a safe haven. When we eventually cross the border in to the first safe country, I would drop to my knees, pray to god, and be forever thankful that my family and I are now safe from the Nazi scum or whatever tyrannical monster we were on the run from.
What I would not do, is then cross a further 6 borders until I reach a country where I think we will be a bit better financially better off.
Does that answer your question?
What would you do Kermit?

Same of course but these things, as we are seeing, cannot always be achieved by doing it all alone as your scenario entails. The escape will inevitably involve others. with your choices limited, night time runs, etc. Which means you are putting your lives and trust in others.

The Syrians dead/murdered in that truck were probably praying for a life. That is all. They took the risk. It didn't work. Some of them will have children. That was probably motivation enough for them to try and escape their hell.

They probably also had fvck all idea they were in Austria. The smuggling gang had their sights set on Northern Europe. Those Syrians I bet couldn't care less where they ended up as long as they had a life of sorts.

Can I just say to those callous people who take this lightly that I have met many, many hundreds of people who are illegally here or who have claimed asylum. Except in a handful of cases they are very harmless individuals looking to better themselves in the way that you might do in similar circumstances. There are good reasons for maintaining an immigration control but it does not mean that those who break the rules deserve to be regarded as less than human. Being an illegal immigrant is not crime of the century.

Incidentally, this is not the first time this has happened. Dozens of Chinese people died in the back of a refrigerated van at Dover in the early 2000s.
