How can you tell?

I ask them if they fancy a sh@g - if they say no they must be a lesbian...

Well I don't really know what you would expect a club to do beyond what it has done. Palace is a very welcoming club.
As for the fans sites, I agree with you. The BBS is an appalling site with the same group of people being allowed to boss the site by abusing any newbie they don't agree with. And the Hol although far better, is a little too precious with who and what it allows people to post. Too many red and yellow cards being handed out lately from what I see, and all slanted one way politically speaking. The club has no control over that of course.

We could choose to target them Hrolf. Polish language adverts in every South London sklep and Polish beer at the games. Put in prayer rooms. Have some linguists in the box office - I bet we have some already if we let people know.

And we have another natural advantage - Gatwick. Maybe run adverts in Amsterdam or Frankfurt.

The HF could have a Bulgarian knitting group. So many possibilities.

I've met a few people from Eastern Europe that have been at Selhurst Park in the area, especially a few years back when the Portmannor and Ship had a largely Polish staff.

most of the black people i have met in London a) support Arsenal b) are not immigrants.

considering how many black people live south of the river , unlikely to support Millwall or chelsea.

this is a massive untapped market for palace, especially given the demographic of our players for many years now. Perhaps we should put Bolasie, zaha and puncheon on a load of billboards across the capital.

To be clear I didn't mean to imply that black and asian people were immigrants. My meaning was we missed the boat with the first generation, albeit many of our earlier immigrant waves would have been more likely to support cricket. I wonder if Surrey CCC benefited.

Let's not be guilty of missing the boat again.

Is this a piss take or are you serious?

I am serious. We didn't welcome earlier migrant waves sufficiently, they ended up not supporting Palace or probably football in general in many cases. Now their children and grandchildren, despite living in our catchment area, support other teams.

So grab the next wave early. Become THE club to support for new entrants to the UK.

not liking Palace or football in general, now their grandkids support other teams despite living in thorton heath or croydon, maybe it was because we were s*** at the time, much like your suggestion, much like alot of tripe you post on here, i would think anyone who is an immigrant coming into this country would be more concerned with housing, jobs, education benefits etc....rather than grabbing a season ticket to a club they have no affiliation with and a good chance they have never heard of

Of course they won't have heard of the team that is second in the most popular league in the world.

Using a stereotype for want of a better example but what did Arsenal or whoever do differently other than being a bigger club?

As I've already mentioned they weren't even that good during the periods in question.

How can you tell?

Exactly the same way one would collate data on the ethnicity of everyone that supports Palace. Just take a rough guess and call it fact.

Nice.

Clearly we don't have enough Polish supporters or we would have two new stands and a Holmesdale that isn't sinking by now. And Nigerians to sort out the dreadful parking problems on match days.

Quote Mapletree at 27 Aug 2015 12.14pm

It’s sad we don’t see more black people at Palace matches, and even sadder that so many local black people choose to support the Ars* instead.

It’s also a shame we don’t see many Asian people, presumably in general they prefer cricket.

Yet Palace is the club that holds the English football record for staging the game seen by the greatest amount of people, with over 100 million people watching the club debut of Sun Jihai and Fan Zhiyi in China.

As we consider how to grow our fan base and make Palace into the club it should be, it occurs to me we have a fantastic untapped resource. What we do have near to Selhurst is that great metropolis of Croydon, and specifically Lunar House.

New immigrants are forced to come to our town. Many of them come from places where football is popular and will be looking for a local team to support.

Shouldn’t we be making it really easy and attractive to support the mighty Eagles? And when our expatriate fan base grows, hopefully so will our international fan base by extension.

I look forward to having a sklep in the Holmesdale, lots of interesting food choices and a bank of hookah pipes.

Discuss.

Maybe Steve Parish should make his way to Calais and start handing out free season tickets
