Culpable homicide in Scotland which would be much more befitting of the crime than manslaughter. He knew he was a danger from way back.

The bloke is clearly a self centered grade A cnut of the highest order. For me he should be tried for manslaughter, he may not have intended to kill, but as a result of his actions he did, 10 years per life he took. He should die inside. Also a quick check on the DVLA website reveals: DVLA require existing lorry drivers to have a medical at the age of 45 and then every five years until the age of 65. After 65, the medical has to be done every year. So the question has to be asked how was this condition missed ? and if it was why and how. At the end of the day you can rationalise his actions all you want, he killed 6 people and injured 15 more through his own selfishness. Lock up. loose key. Most of the larger transport companies have a regular doctor they send their drivers to,the medicals tend to be no more than how are you? Check your weight, check your blood pressure and an eyesight test, that's it,form signed, thank you goodbye and see you in five years.

The Industry needs more regulation and checks/controls by police (or licensed auditor's) for those driving HGV's and fiddling their tachygraphs as well as health issues. It will make travel costs and haulage more expensive but avoid needless tragedies like this one.

In my driving experiance most HGV drivers I have encountered on the Roads are arrogant toss pots who think just because they have a fcuk off gert big lorry they can do and drive how they want, and I have to say the foriegn trucks are even worse. In my book anything larger than 3 tonnes, including fecking caravan owners, should not be able to use public highways during rush hours/peak hours for travel. Say between 0700 and 1800 no lorries no where on any road. Less accidents involving normal motorists, less conjestion. Also what the f*** was the bin lorry doing out at that time anyway, should again all be done while the rest of us are either in bed, or still having your morning dump. Not during peek shopping hours. The Germans aleady have a ban on Lorries on the other two lanes during peek times. Punishable by death I think I know the above seems a bit extreme but I drive a lot on the M3 and A303 and there are accidents nearly every day almost all of which involve lorries colliding with cars and there is only one winner there. On a two lane A road , to have massive great lorrys bombing along at the same time as mums on the school/shopping run is absolutley off its tits in fact its more than that its that mental. It should be 10 years for that. Driving while disqualified and endangering the lives of others. Talking of using unfit or elderly drivers for public vehicles. The guy that crashed the bus in to the supermarket in Coventry, which killed two people, is 77!!!

I'd be willing to go that if you've actually been banned for health based reasons, which you were arguably culpable for multiple deaths, and you're caught driving without some kind of massively brilliant excuse, you should be facing charges on a par with attempted murder. The first offence, should have resulted in manslaughter charges being laid. But to then go out and actually drive after you've effectively 'gotten away with murder' shows he's a clear and willing danger to society. You might as well be releasing a serial killer onto the streets. Plus no bail, he should be held on remand pending trial - Everytime he gets in a car its like someone handing a loaded gun to a school kid.

I still reckon they only decided not to charge him with anything in order to save Glasgow council from being sued for millions for negligence. If it was a private vehicle he'd have been straight up on charges.

If it was a private vehicle he'd have been straight up on charges. Is the correct answer. And they should be facing charges too, for failing to properly ensure the suitability of their drivers (they're not necessarily culpable, but I'd be surprised if they'd maintained all the necessary medical references and checks).

I don't think there is much room in the religious warfare market for Islam in Scotland, at least not until they get their own football team.

I'm over 70 and wouldn't want to drive a bus regularly now. He may not have been to blame for crash - time will tell. Edited by rob1969 (05 Oct 2015 3.40pm)
