What happened to Windows 9? I believe they bypassed it because of something to do with Windows 95 and Windows 98 content coming up when searching for Windows 9....or something like that.

I have major concerns with Windows 10. Firstly, its updates. Some updates are mandatory, including device drivers. In the pre live version, there was a way to turn this option off for at least some things, its being reported that the live version does not have this ability. So your drivers will auto update based on what MS think they should be! Some security patches are also mandatory, like the "security patch" for windows 7 that included a little feature constantly telling you to upgrade to Windows10. Privacy. Try reading the MS terms of agreement, they are 45 A4 pages long if you print them out. FREE? Forbes magazine reports that Windows 10 will be the last "version" of windows. After this, it will becomes just "Windows" and will turn to a subscription based operating system by 2017. You wont be paying for patches and fixes to existing features and functions, but if you want the new stuff they will be rolling out, then you have to start paying annual fees, and you can bet that some of that new stuff will be mandatory for certain other popular applications and games. NOTE: Windows 7 support continues until 2020. I will be sticking with Windows 7 for at least another 364 days. All of the above.... The rule is, if something is free, you are the product. I never used Window 8, got to use it when it came out and after a close look I stuck with Windows 7. MS are now as bad as Apple when it comes to wanting to know everything about you. Win7/Linux...
Not quite sure how I reconcile the above two parts of your post, but anyhoo.... here's some perspective on "Windows":

The natural upgrade path from Windoze 7 is of course to Ubuntu Linux 15.04. Windoze as a subscription service? You'd have to have lost your mind.

I was in IT some years ago and the concensus of opinion was you only ever "trust" teh 3rd version of any IT product so that would be Windows 10.3 and beyond. The fact that M/S aren't telling you what version it is now, it seemingly is going to be updated behind the scenes so to speak.

If anyone does want to upgrade and doesn't want to wait for Microsoft to do it for them: Remember, you need a legitimate copy of Windows 7/8/8.1 to upgrade. Edited by JL85 (01 Aug 2015 9.33am)
