Provided you're not black, you should be fine If your black, you're more likely to get shot by a US policeman...

You get to be stood next to the senior officer justifying the shooting of someone in circumstances that even Stalin would have found questionable.

This is the reason why I will never visit America. There are loads of things I would like to see and do in the US but I just wouldn't feel safe.

America is a wonderful country if you look at it holistically.

The chances are still very low.....It's like anywhere else....You face a larger chance of getting mugged if you are in some places more than others.

You face a larger risk of death getting into your car.

I took the Mrs to Philadelphia for a week earlier this year. Everyone I told about the trip before I went thought I was mad as it had such a reputation. We went round the whole city, day, night, got the subway, got the buses, no problems at all. Loved the place. Same with MOST major Western cities - use your common sense* and you'll be fine.

*such an undervalued quality to have nowadays

I had to go to Pilly once for a convention. Right in the middle of the garbage strike, too. Mind you, they connected me through Newark on the way, so Philadelphia actually didn't seem that bad by the time I got there.

Nobody left the hotel though, for all the smell. I didn't see anything when I was there, not even the Rocky Statue.

Ha! Yeah it was a bit left-field for a vacation! To be fair we did New York too. The plan was to stay in Philly and do a couple of days in New York and DC but we never made it to DC.

What can I say? We had a great time in Philly. Saw all the sights, Reading Market is fantastic, ate loads in decent restaurants, drank in some roof top bars. I appreciate I only stayed in the place for a week but got only good things to say about Philly!

Christ, not booing Santa! In Croydon people burnt down a family-run Furniture store when they were pissed off.

The Eagles were having a nightmare season that year, imagine Santa going round Selhurst after a sh*t season...

It's fine, it got better for the Eagles. They later drafted OJ Simpson...
