England would have been looking to get at least 450 when they elected to bat.Don't think they will get there !

On an overcast day and facing the same Mitchell Johnson that ripped them apart a couple of years ago - somehow I don't think so.

They weren't to know that the pitch would be so lifeless or that Johnson would be relatively ineffective at the toss and I think that they would have been well pleased to get to where they are now when winning the toss

One of the reasons for making a decision after winning the toss is the state of the pitch and England chose to bat for a good reason.Maybe they didn't think it would be quite as lifeless but given that it WAS I believe they had @400-450 in their sights. Let's hope they get there but I fear it won't be long before Australia bat.

Great knock by Joe Root but he does have a tendency to get a low score in the second innings following a century in the first.

Not sure how you work that out. You can only judge a pitch when both sides have batted on it.

They won the morning session but I'd say we won the next two.

Agree with you Stuk; word for word.

If Had's only hung onto that sitter, would've been a very different story. But alas, it isn't.

Honours even, if not, even in your favour.

If Haddin had clung on to that I dread to think what could've happened.

Nice fluent stuff from Mo again this morning and I'm happy with 430 for now.

The Aussies two key men in the last Ashes have not had great starts, Haddin with the drop and Johnson racking up Nelson for no wickets!

Optimistic as ever

Good day for us imo

We stay in touch this innings and put on another decent score then they're playing on a day 5 wicket that'll be cracking up

I'd have us as favourites right now

Think it's pretty even at the moment !
Don't forget thta Bell is totally out of nick and Root invariably follows a century with a paltry score.Still fancy the Aussies !

The pessimism of many English cricket fans is a bottomless well. On this thread we find ways to subtly knock Joe Root. The boy's a world class talent, appreciate him.

Root is a terrific player and lets hope he scores loads of centuries for England.Recently though he has failed in the second innings after a century in the first - lets hope he gets another century in his second innings ! He is only young and a "Work in progress".
