Where I do agree with the article is that London's culture needs protecting. Don't shut places like Fabric/Madame JoJo's/Cable and don't pander to big companies that want to make everywhere a hub of Pret-a-f*cking-Mangers. Or flats. I'll probably agree that London is doomed if the new development next to Ministry of Sound sees the club closed down due to noise complains, as is the subject of much speculation.

Nothing round my part of London in the past 20 odd years has changed much....I love it. Started going downhill though, with the advent of Mo's corner shop.......

Don't shut places like Fabric/Madame JoJo's/Cable and don't pander to big companies that want to make everywhere a hub of Pret-a-f*cking-Mangers. Not specifically these location, but I agree entirely with the proliferation of identi-kit franchise business and chains such ala Starbucks, pret-a-manger, greggs etc, over independent stores and outlets. Sadly, this is probably an envitable consequence of the inflexibility of small store business models, high street rent costs and the business practices of large chains and franchises. Things like Madame Jo-Jos, Fabric et al, shouldn't necessarily be preserved, they should exist in their space and time, but the loss of locations that can be places like that is always a loss, if its replaced by something purely functional or identi-kit. I once went to the Hacienda, it wasn't necessarily the best night or greatest time of my life, but its the participation in something of history that is of its time and place, that creates a special moment. Had it been preserved forever, would it really be so much of a cultural icon?

Ministry of Sound was always a horrible club, but I agree, I'd rather see it become a new club or venue, but I'd hate to see it turned into a supermarket or flats.... Superclubs were always so gauche.

That's what I love about the HOL. In order to keep each topic fresh and interesting, we always find a way to switch it to racism. Which isn't at all tedious. I blame them pesky immigrants... London's coolness is subsiding purely because of those North London types who seem to think all you need to do is grow a beard, live in a former slum and ride a unicycle to work to be cool and edgy rather than just an utter tw@t

Hahahha yes maybe very much. I saw some c**t wearing football boots in a bar not so long ago, it took all my restraint not to chin the c**t. Sometimes central London looks like a 'Nathen Barley' convention.

Never met one I liked, precocious t***s.

I was considering moving back to London last year but decided it's too much effort and expense.

Come up for work every day, go as far up as Croydon to see family, but not for me any more - give me tiny crime rates, friendly people, fresh are and greenery any day. Quite happy to go up for the central bits (culture, tourist attractions, etc) but the vast sprawling suburbia around it? Nah.
