Dissident Republicans are still engaged in terrorism and the planning of terrorist attacks. Do they enagage in criminal activity... of course. Are they nice people? Not in my eyes. Do they represent the biggest threat to the peace process? Probably.

The left has always kind of implied that the Loyalists criminals and thugs were somehow worse than the Republican criminals and thugs. The UFF certainly wasn't too fussy about murdering people, only 4% of their victims were actually members of republican paramilitary groups. Its hard to look even remotely legitimate when you've murdered 209 people for being catholic, and 37 people for being loyalist dissenters. I wouldnt' say anyone comes off looking good out of the Troubles, not the British, not the Loyalists or the Republican paramilitary groups and certainly not the 'Community Action groups' of either side. Good, we agree then. Perhaps you might consider applying the use of adjectives like 'criminal' and 'thugs' to both sides when discussing them. The left has always kind of implied that the Loyalists criminals and thugs were somehow worse than the Republican criminals and thugs.

The UFF certainly wasn't too fussy about murdering people, only 4% of their victims were actually members of republican paramilitary groups. Its hard to look even remotely legitimate when you've murdered 209 people for being catholic, and 37 people for being loyalist dissenters.

They were far worse just before and at the beginning of the troubles - Attacking the civil rights movement, Bombay Street, etc - but it evened itself out over time via the IRA. No innocent parties in this conflict and those who think one side is more heroic than the other are just sentimental fools.
