Maybe their real angst is they don't have a party that represents them? The fact that people in the Labour party are cut from the same cloth and just have modern liberal ideals. If there is such great disillusionment Why doesn't a new socialist party evolve that fights for jobs, minimum wage, social housing, Education, student rights and fees, benefits. everyday Things that resonate with poor, ordinary people? Instead they get the Labour party. That's what they should fight for rather than the boring 'tories out' cliche Because of the cost of campaigning in rigged elections, where 7.7% of the vote returns 8 seats, 12% returns 1 seat, and a 6% difference means a difference of other 100 seats. Anyone who thinks the British system is really democratic, fair, impartial and representative of the people is deluded. 'Rigged' - in what way? Can't you read? He just explained.

Hopefully the Government will take these views into account and ask the people if they would like to change the system, through a referendum perhaps? That seems to be the most democratic thing they could possibly do... I genuinely have no idea what people are protesting about.

If the elections were not, as you say, 'rigged', and were held on a basis that you would consider not rigged (whatever that may be), who do you think would be the majority party?

If Labour had won you'd never have see any protest like this. Because the Conservative voters would be too busy. Working. Same old middle-class 'fight the system', I've finished uni and don't want to work in the real world, live in Camden cos I'm hip w*nkers who attack the police because they know they aren't allowed to do anything to left-wing groups.

I think they're just frustrated by their own ignorance. I doubt the 16 year old arrested or the other dozen had half a clue or a vote between them. They clearly weren't protesting for a lower voting age. The times I've seen a protest which was actually about something (Lewisham Hospital) you had the same Socialist idiots with the exact same banners about bankers and the tories as were out this morning. If there are cuts affecting people at a local level these people should all unite and turn out in support of that rather than just showing up for the big events with all the fun of a bit of aggro. Oh and let's not forget the same protest in Wales where Charlotte Church featured. Has she been affected and does she stick her hand in her pocket?

It was on AV, a kind of middle-ground position between FPTP and PR, but yes that's what I was getting at. Not even 1 in 3 supported a diluted PR so we kept our system and a party won a majority. These protests have 0 substantive thought to them.

If a few sad old dinosaurs going on a protest where half of the attendees are troublemakers is the best the Left can come up with then the Tories are laughing until 2025.

I think it ludicrous that these demonstrations happen before the Queens Speech. At the moment what these demostrators are saying is that the participants disagree with the election result. It therefore has no legitimacy as the agenda of the new government has not been formalised. However, instead of having demonstrations, why don't these protesters form a single political group, with a manifesto that matches their views, and then campaign to be elected as a political party? Or is that a too conventional and straight forward way of bringing their message to the public? Edited by matt_himself (10 May 2015 3.28pm)
