Its not a figure of speech but the amount of people who confuse the word 'Loose' and 'Lose' (as in I saw Palace loose at Arsenal) is reaching epidemic proportions and the only way I can see of rectifying it is by culling...

Could, should or might of instead of could, should or might have. The apostrophe in could've is to show contraction.

You could finish that off with "to get cash out of the ATM machine".....

I've said it before, but "literally". Kids on the train use that so many times. My favourite was "I am so tired I'm literally dead". For some reason this really annoys me. Its a word you should barely ever use, except to highlight that you aren't talking figuratively, or metaphorically (or referring to the use of techniques within literature).

We were loose against Hull Well a bit of fluid movement is no bad thing. I should relate this back to grammar somehow. I had the incorrect use of a colon: sorted.

"Like" when used 6 times in any 12 word sentence (see TOWIE) "You know" when used 6 times in any 12 word sentence (see D Beckham or most footballers) "Would/could of" instead of would have/could have Saying "hashtag" in front of words - as if that's supposed to mean something useful to the listener "Sick" for good "Dope" for good "Phat/Fat"(not sure & don't care on spelling) for good - what's wrong with "good"?? I guess I'm not down with the kids - or whatever the correct term is for that now, and don't even get me started on text speak in normal, everyday conversation. Edited by Charlie Croker (29 Apr 2015 12.08pm) I think you can forgive footballers for using filler words on tv interviews when they have a camera in their face after running around for 90 mins. Especially when they're not paid to make fancy speeches. And probably gave up on school at a fairly young age. What disturbs me most though, is when you hear an interview with Gerrard or Wayne Rooney and its followed by an interview with a foreign player who's command of the English language is far better. Then you realise that maybe, they're just thick, and the only reason they're not in prison is they could kick a ball around really well

Thanks for that hoof. I thought I was the only one to get wound up by the 'so' merchants. Winds me up whenever I hear it! Even my daughter - well educated and nearly 40 says it! I keep telling her it's 'may I have' I'll even accept 'can I have' but not 'can I get!' No wonder I've got high blood pressure.
