Told by a friend of an rmt member that the story is because of his health the breath test gave a false reading. And rather than test his urine as well for alcohol this was not done. Lu then destroyed the test results. The reason for the strike is procedures put in place by London underground was not followed. Not sure how true this is. But if London underground havent followed procedures, they've left themselves open... Edited by nickgusset (10 Feb 2015 8.06pm)
So why should the Union members set themselves up as judge and jury when there is a serviceable process available to this employee? And no TUX, it won't inconvenience me in the slightest. I don't catch the underground. But it will inconvenience over a million people, some of whom aren't in a position to easily cope.[/quote] So they can make their way 'underground' but can't make their way 'over ground'? I never saw that coming tbh. Ah, my mistake. The underground system is clearly not an important part of London's infrastructure and of course overground transport can cope without it. Silly me.

Having had a bit of a read of this, I think what the RMT must have offered is that if a Tribunal found the driver was wrongly dismissed then would LU reinstate him rather than make a payment for wrongful dismissal. That does seem pretty reasonable - although very uncommon - so on this occasion it may well be that management are the idiots. I just hate this constant bickering and the way both sides seem to live in a bygone age of industrial relations.

Calm down . At no point have I said you've made a mistake.

It's obvious the Union are trying every angle to wriggle out of it, looking at technicalities.

They might pay compensation, but that is normally 6 months pay So the driver has lost his job, and with the stigma that he was fired for driving a train whilst drunk, has little chance of getting another half decent job. How much will that cost him up to retirement age? Or how much will it cost us in paying him benefit? Ask LU why they will not accept tribunal decision if they are sure they are right
Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season? |

I have been on both sides of the union coin - originally in one (POEU / CWU) and close to its local branch leadership and then more recently sitting opposite a real Dave Spart type from Unite shouting up the workers rhetoric that made Fred Kite look positively enlightened. The management meanwhile where actually being incredibly reasonable with their concessions and offers but he wasn't having any it even if the reps wanted to (it was the same reason I left the CWU) Not really any difference in the outlook from those days in the mid eighties until now Union wise sadly in my experience Shame as Unions are hugely important, probably more than ever, with the way big corporates seek to take the piss these days, but at times they just seem petty, outmoded and still just spoiling for a fight. Me too Sash Worked happily with National Officers and Shop Stewards. Had so much hassle with the guys in the middle, no skin in the game and highly political.
