This. We don’t have the players to do it (yet) We could play another way but with the state of our defence we’d get slapped even more. I have a growing feeling Howe will come in next season - if we invest sensibly and concentrate mainly on our defence and defensive midfield by injecting some youth and players that can run a bit faster than a slug we will have a base to build from that allows us to play a higher line, compete better with pressing and be able to recover from losing possession faster. This in turn will free up the attacking players from defensive duties more - unlike now where because our defence is so deep and so slow, our attackers have to drop and work twice as hard defensively as they should have to. We need new players more than we need a new manager. All that said I was not impressed with Roy in his post match interview ‘we played well’. No Roy. He has witnessed his team carry out his gameplan to near perfection, being compact and organised and difficult to break down and hitting Brighton on the break to score two impressive goals. He has also seen his team show a great desire to keep the ball out of the net when it came into the area.A happy chappie! I really hope Roy signs a new contract soon. That was a masterclass in how to win a game. "Softly, softly, catchy monkey". Also, loads more wet pants..... Tossers

It was fantastic that we won tonight but come on let’s be honest it was a horrible watch & so easily could have gone the other way. If that was the case I wonder whether you would have posted the above. Also we could play this game 99 times over & we would lose most of them it’s very rare you will have 2 touches the whole game in the opposition’s box & score 2 goals. That style of football tonight was horrendous & not something I wish to continue watching. If Brighton had a striker they would have won this game comfortably. This is also not about 1 result this is about the style of football & the decline in results over a period of time. Please don’t let one big result against our rivals cloud you judgement. Don’t get me wrong I’m delighted with the win & pts total so far but just imagine where we could be if we delivered more frequent service like we did tonight with 2 crosses. Benteke just showed everyone that if he is given decent service he can still score the goals. Edited by dazza (23 Feb 2021 12.10am)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

yes, with the caveat we do need to think ahead to when Roy does go. No caveat on the bed wetters hereabouts Originally posted by Tim Gypsy Hill '64

I had it in my head that Southampton were having a good seaso playing some class football. Tonight we are above them.

New here as a neutral these days, but i've been following Roy's teams for many years. I honestly think, regardless of how you feel about how he's done this year, you only need to hear how highly so many of his former players speak of him. Achievements like bringing Fulham from the qualifying stages of the Europa league in July to the final the following May is, in my opinion, still quite underrated. I have a soft spot for him as he's one of the last gentlemen in the game (obviously he can have his moments like anyone). From afar, I actually would like to see him with some sort of transfer fund this summer to bring a number of new players for next season. (I saw a video of swansea 5 palace 4 the other day and was shocked how many players are still in the current starting 11) He's still as coherent as any manager in the league, and always offers his own unique and intelligent perspective on situations which I think, once he does leave, people will miss. I think if he was to go this year, it would be wonderful if palace achieved some sort of record, be it their highest finish or some sort of points total. But I would like to see him stay.

Thanks for sharing. And while I agree that he's an absolute gentleman, top bloke and earned his status as a legend of the game, his time managing our club is hopefully up. I'd too love to see him bow out having led us to our highest finish. Can't see it. But it would be a fairytale finish for a great manager for us.

It's quite simple, was that match a show of the players doing it for the fans? was that all out on the line for the badge?
This was once a quality forum.... |
