291 pages devoted to a Party which ended up with one MP. That's a successful campaign of sorts.
Will be using that later as it's Friday instead of the usual naming of the 1966 World cup winning team.

Come on Thanet South - champing at the bit here.
Edited by Daz.CPFC (08 May 2015 10.39am)
South Thanet have "not" Farage, but have lost someone who would have actually represented them on a local platform. 1 seat from 13% of the vote. That's why UK politics is such a joke.
They represent a few pockets of the UK quite well but not the main swathe. They just didn't have enough broad appeal. Edited by Kermit8 (08 May 2015 11.05am) I don't like UKIP but they got twice the national percentage of vote that the Lib Dems got. UKIP got one seat, the Lib Dems have 8. That is neither representational or democratic. The SNP isn't really a fair example, as that's a different country, but the fact that they nearly doubled the Lib Dem turn out, and still finished behind them in seats points to how f**ked the system is. Doesn't matter what party the represent or how you feel about them, if you support representative democracy, its impossible to claim its a fair result. If the SNP was called something different and stood in England, they'd probably have crucified Labour as well, as most peoples only issue with them seems to be a fear of them being Scotish (indeed the Conservatives were more worried about the SNP than Labour).
The only proper and fair solution is more discriminating and stronger regional governance. More devolution. As in the UKIP MP can actually do something for the residents of Clacton without having to beg to Westminster. Better than just pissing in the wind for the next four or five years.

Unless there was a lot of tactical voting involved

They've had their 15mins. Nigel is gone. A hotchpotch of a 'Referendum' in two years. No Brexit following. 3rd most popular party vote wise 'yes'. 3rd biggest? Nah. DUP will have more influence than them.

A terrible niht for Labour and the Lib Dems, but a bad night for UKIP too. Losing Farage, plus as others have said the reality that you can get about 13% of the vote and have it amount to so little. PR is needed in my view. Farage agrees. Of course there's this idea that it will ensure a fair EU vote, but this is politics, so we need to get real. The EU doesn't want us to leave, nor do the Americans, nor do the Conservatives for that matter. There's one logical conclusion to be drawn from that. It won't happen.

It wont - its likely a few more UKIP MP's might have been able to drive out some action for necessary change that needs to happen with our European relationship.

That's the thing about this result, people are cheering like it's a victory in terms of right vs left. When the dust settles though, people of various ideologies will feel done over.

You know who has been pushing for that. Therefore, UKIP has influence. Deal with it and the failure of the left.

Farage has certainly lost his lilt. He's peeved at the system and rightfully so. I wonder if he'll stand again later in the year though, like he's hinted. As much stick as he gets, he is a big personality and very capable.

Do you think the fact that 13% got them one seat will damage support for UKIP? I guess it will depend on what Cameron offers in way of a referendum. He's in a tough spot with that.
