A permanent RB and striker loan are the absolute minimum for Roy to escape relegation. But we’ve seen Parish leave managers with less than the minimum. Roy is the kind of man I’d expect to not go in all guns blazing but just tell Parish without those 2 additions then relegation is very likely and it’s up to Parish and the board what they do.

How do you know my last post is wrong when there are still 11 days to go in the window all cause they did not happen last week does not mean I am wrong. Unfortunately it is the Palace way to leave things late. I suppose we will see. Originally posted by Bangell
Given that your last post was completely wrong, I'll take this with a pinch of salt.

Some will inevitably be somewhat cynical about, what can appear to be, the 'Nostradamus syndrome' of predicting prolifically and often and getting, what some would see as, a lucky hit.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

It may be the case that you have good information and the deals just didn't go through as planned, but it's just as likely that you're like a 'psychic', throwing out information (and none of your suggestions in this thread hadn't already been featured heavily in the press), letting people take the correct bits as evidence you're ITK while going 'ah well, things don't always turn out quite as planned' to any incorrect statements.

Very true. I'm inclined to call fake news again. Mentioning the possibility of us signing players we are constantly linked with by the end of the transfer window proves nothing at all. Furthermore, when you mention a bunch of names (McCarthy, Jenkinson, Billing) and specific times, and none of them happen, I'm further inclined to believe your gamble did not pay off. I hear SSN are recruiting however!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I gotta be honest. But I think our passiveness towards transfers during this window could see us in alot of trouble this season. It really doesn't matter if Wilf stays or goes. Trying to revive Benteke is not the answer. And thinking we can simply stand still in this league & not strengthen is naive beyond belief. Especially when we've been scraping by for a couple of years now. You can't keep getting away with it on the cheap. And it's pointless trying to do so anyway, cos if we're in serious trouble by Xmas again. Parish will have to choose between relegation & splashing out on overinflated prices anyway.
We're the Arthur over ere! |

Are we the only team in the prem league who have not strengthened ? The alarming thing is not only have we not strengthened we have lost 2 of our best players and have a far thinner squad.

Right at this moment the answer is yes unless you count signing Jordan Ayew as strengthening the team. I'm sure that Nero will put away his fiddle before Rome has completely burned down though

I suspect that the Wilf situation is behind our lack of activity, sooner its sorted the better all round. History though does point to us taking things to far one way & then overpaying to correct things.

Roy is the kind of man I’d expect to not go in all guns blazing but just tell Parish without those 2 additions then relegation is very likely and it’s up to Parish and the board what they do. I suppose SP took a look at the general makeup of the PL this season and concluded that a) enough teams are still fragile against Zaha b) at least three teams have worst overall first-choice defenses than our first-choice back five. As for the striker, I'm not sure one will come in. The plan is probably to play Ayew/Schlupp more on the wings and play Wilf through the middle for most of the season, so in SP's mind that solves the striker issue. With Meyer sort of cementing his place in the midfield three during pre season, there's no need to insist with Schlupp in the middle, so he become our first choice left winger. All fans of his 5 ft soft sideway passing rejoice! Also, there are still some good names left in the loan market (exact list tbc after all major teams come back from their Asia/US tours). Even with their transfer ban, Chelsea have lots of players on their books. I can see us trying to get maybe Tosun on loan given Everton want to get rid anyway. Same goes for Jenkinson if none of the EPL/top Championship clubs who are in for a back-up right-back will agree to pay a fee. Plus, there's the desperate out-of-contract panic signing avenue, which SP loves (think Flamini). I don't even want to know what previous EPL players between 33 and 36 are out of contract, it's just too depressing to think about it. SP was not expecting to get 50M for AWB and thus he had no plan in place to spend it. All this to say that we're counting on Zaha getting lots of penalties now that VAR is in place and Luka to convert, and also on guaita and tomkins to not get injured for too long. Sakho will because that's just Sakho. As for next year, when Sakho, Luka, Townsend(?) contracts are up, well, that's why we have Jach, Riedewald, Schlupp on the books
