The club should have been ruthless with him when his initial contracted ended and just let him go. He was never good enough even when fit to even warrant taking a gamble on him.

When has he ever been fit for more than a game or two? Comes back from injury, plays 20 minutes as sub, injured fro 3 months, rinse and repeat! Just a drain on the clubs finances..

I had to serious question the club's business acumen when Wickham and Benteke's contracts were extended, and I've seen nothing this season to convince me that my judgement was mistaken. Millions in wages thrown away and minimal resale value. Sometimes you have to take the hit and move on afresh.

I've always hoped there's some kind of insurance that pays for Wickham. Although I suspect the no claims has run out.

Apart from the serious knee injury most of his absences are strains and pulls which the medics rely on the player to say when he feels right enough to train. I think he's a malingerer who is quite happy to sit in the treatment room while the others train. He shows no appetite to bust a gut to return to training asap even his knee injury took him two years when most are around 9 months

The purpose was not to be left high and dry with no recognised striker which would of ended with us paying a premium for a replacement.

Probably cost the club around £8m for one season. Signing Ayew's transfer fee plus wages probably cost £8m too for his first season too.

You are so correct, neither of them have any value and we should negotiate early exit as soon as possible!

No other club in the league would have done that

If it was just one or the other then maybe okay but both of them was just crazy.

Just the cheap and lazy option by the club. Just renew the contracts, I’m sure on reduced contracts. No capital outlay required. I hope it’s all just with the new manager in mind.

A new manager? Don't be surprised if come next Spring and we have hit 40pts the club offer Hodgson another year's extension. Whilst ever he keeps the club up and wants to continue as manager, don't expect any change. And no, I'm not particularly enamoured at the thought although I recognise that Hodgson has brought some stability to the team.

As for Wickham, hopefully, he will be let go this time.

Disagree - he's definitely shown signs of a decent striker when he's put a couple of games together. Unfortunately it's far too few and far between. Shame.

It's not a cheap and lazy option when the person is never available. Ayew was a cheap option, Wickham is just madness.
SP is on a huge salary as CEO so needs to show some ruthlessness in contract negotiations.
He seems to treat players as his mates so is too generous.
We have a very high wage bill (highest in league as a % of revenue) and some of the renewals just can't be justified.
Not just Wickham, also last one for Jonny Williams was stupid, Inniss, Paddy Mac for years and even DD's last year was pointless.
Agents still get paid for contract renewals too BTW

forgot to mention Benteke.

He wouldn't take a big pay cut so unless we have a release amount in contract, say £5m, what's the point??
