Labour took the decision to talk directly to the IRA. That led to the eventual Good Friday agreement Peace would not have been possible with the tories as they are the Conservative and Unionist party. The Irish people have adapted to the peace rather well without the general thread. So why not just shut up and leave Ireland to the Irish.
