With respect, the goals scored by Stones were following corners and one would suspect a tall centre-half to be brought up in this phase of the game.

Apropos Ayew, perhaps the thinking was that he has shown what he can do running the channels and offers more mobility than Benteke and that this might have been required to relieve the pressure.

With the greatest of respect Stones spent as much of the match in our half as he did his own, the primary reason being they didn’t need 4 defenders to mark Ayew who mostly picked up the ball in our half anyway. How on earth can he help relieve the pressure if he is one of 11 chained to defensive duties.

As soon as I saw the lineup I thought the thinking was let's not bother trying to get anything out of this game: 11 men behind the ball, lads!

City are as such not as strong now as they were in the past.
Yet we did better then than we did the other night.
We have really regressed over the last 12 months.
40 points in the last 38 games; 7 clean sheets; 36 goals scored and 73 conceded.
We are dire.

Fully agree and there is no hiding the fact that the entire team on Sunday played abysmal football, the other two goals were a mistake by Guaita when he rolled out the ball to the opposition and then the free kick we gave away right on the edge of the penalty area from which Sterling scored. The squad of players available to Roy, with the exception one or two have limited ability in the way they can play, the tactics are dictated by the players available and their ability to adapt. The tactics are largely governed by the talent and team balance you have available!

They were set up to fail, it’s as simple as that.

Question: can it be charged that the game has been brought into disrepute by a side that has no intention to attack and has zero attempts on goal?

We’d certainly be seen as a qualifying test case. We did the equivalent of not trying for a Cup match in a League game which is unacceptable. It wouldn’t be so bad if we hadn’t done it several times already this season.

Roy, is a well respected and experience Professional Manager, he would never set up a team to fail, they were set up IMHO for a point, once Zaha became unavailable his options on the break were limited by what we have available it as simple as that. The entire team were poor on the night and their limitations were exposed!

That team was in search of a miracle point. I have already posted how I thought we might be able to combat how City play so I won’t post again but needless to say it involved breaking down their high press which is the reason we were never in the game. If you want to explain to me how you might have approached it then I’m happy to listen.

Yes I read that, the only trouble is that we do not have the players to do what you are suggestion (Eg:quality striker!) and I'm certainly not suggesting that I can do a better job than Roy as I do not have the skills, experience or indeed the previous experience as a football coach.

Hey, we are all football supporters and we’ve all played. You don’t need to be a top manager to spot we were never going to get anything from that match. I’m pretty sure a manager like Allardyce would have played Benteke and Bats together up front and looked for the long ball as the release rather than tippy tapping it in the midfield which is what got us into trouble.

I think that is what I said, we were set up for a point and I always knew once they scored we were always unlikely to get back in the game, perhaps I did not explain myself well enough
