You can only beat what is in front of you. In those situations in the past we have struggled. Today we took the game to them after the break and once we scored the second there was only going to be one winner. Yes we took full control of the situation WBA allowed us and that was excellent from our squad and not only that it provided much needed confidence especially for Benteke which is brilliant news.

Yes I did watch the game. Very closely. We were better for first 10/15 minutes then they had a better spell till the sending off. No different than most games in this division in the first half. The momentum? Win the game? He was sent off in the 34th minute not the 89th. We could have easily beaten Burnley and Newcastle and nobody could have said we didn’t deserve points. We beat Leeds 4-1 and fans like yourself are straight on here complaining that we wouldn’t have won only for their disallowed goal. Pathetic. Yes, they had the momentum. West Brom conceded an own goal, their tails were up after they scored their equaliser, they were playing better than us and looked like scoring again, as at the time we were defending very poorly. The sending off of Pereira changed the game completely. We took advantage of it, for which I am very grateful, but it doesn’t change the fact that we were poor up until they were reduced to ten men. It doesn’t change the fact that we were also extremely poor against Chelsea, Brighton, Wolves, Burnley & Newcastle in our previous games and there is nothing pathetic in suggesting that Leeds would’ve gone on to win, had their perfectly good goal not been disallowed by VAR, because it was a distinct possibility the way the game was going.

The VAR technology indicated that Bamford was offside, albeit exceedingly narrowly. Regards today's win, of course I am delighted but of course there were phases in the game when we were not too impressive. Edited by Willo (06 Dec 2020 11.26pm)

Edited by Willo (06 Dec 2020 11.26pm) The VAR was wrong, as has been highlighted by the incorrect positioning of the lines on Bamford’s & Clyne’s arms by Shockley Park. This has been done to death Willo and we are well aware that it was disallowed for offside but that Bamford has since been shown to be onside. Leave that one alone for the sake of keeping this on the WBA match thread. Attachment: 2F8CC8A3-5421-4EE1-BD9C-46F9760E500E.jpeg (7,495.69Kb)

We have a different opinion but in the interests of keeping this thread on-track we will have to agree to disagree and not get embroiled in a debate on the incident. In terms of today's VAR intervention, in real-time I felt Pereira kicked out at PVA.Having then seen the incident in slow-motion,once the referee went to the monitor I was convinced he would brandish a 'Red' and I said so to my dear wife. Wilf's second and Tekker's second were pretty good goals too. Typical anti-Palace bias from the Sky moaner in chief etc etc etc Edited by peterg (06 Dec 2020 5.39pm) I must admit I did laugh out loud when he said that. It's been said that we don't get the respect we deserve and you won't get a more glaring example of it.

This reminded me of the Leeds match, where their goal was overruled on a bizarre VAR decision, and the entire match changed after that. Same with the red card today. Before the red, WBA looked like the better side, and more likely to get the 3 points. I didn't think it was a red card, but maybe according to the letter of the law it is. PVA got burned by Pereiera on WBA's goal, and right after that, it looked like he went after Pereira with an elbow to the chest. Pereira was knocked down, and it looked like PVA was about to fall on top of him, so Pereira held out his legs to shield himself. I guess his leg was "extended", but it didn't look violent to me, or that he was kicking at PVA. Still, we've had sh-t luck earlier, so I'll take good luck here. Even after the sending off, I thought the pressure was all on us to get the 3 points. Zaha, as usual, did it all himself, and maybe saved Roy for another season. I was really happy to see Benteke score. Aside from Zaha as the obvious MotM, I thought MacArthur had a really good game. He would be my second choice for MotM. Eze was quality as well. Clyne is a quietly solid signing.

It's hard to say what would have happened had the red card not happened, but having said that, I always felt confident we would win whatever with Wilf in the team. He and Eze were allowed too much space and that was not just because of the red card. TSN referred to Dermott Gallagher for a referee's view on the red card and he said that due to where Perreira's foot ended up and the fact he extended it it was always going to be red, even if the force was not that strong. Had it been a Palace player I would have been pi$$ed, but the player has to take some responsibility a bit like when Luka was sent off. One of those rare occasions when you get to experience what it's like to support a big club! Most enjoyable second half since god knows when. Well done Palace

The red card was issued not for how severe or otherwise the foul was but because of the intent. WBA supporters are angry about the card and I am sure we Palace fans would be the same. My preference would be for VAR to be used goalmouth and offside decisions but all other areas to be the sole decision of the refs.

I have now seen a replay. The sending off in my book was tough but he did jerk his knee into PVA which was not clever. It was more a red card that Milo's who clears the ball cleanly but good because the guy places his foot to intercept Milo's follow through Milo gets a red!
Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time! |

With respect, "Intent" is not a factor in respect of red and yellow cards.
