Where was Meyer ? Surely not injured as he has never played. Are we saving him for the scratch team humiliation of the Cup in January ? Is he league tied ?

His last game for us in the PL was last season, in July, when we were defeated 2-0 at A.Villa.
His only game for us this season was in the EFL Cup at Bournemouth and he played the whole game.

I thought I would wait a couple of days to read everyone’s views and I think all the points made are valid. Having watched the game we were undone by a hopeful ball into the box which got caught up in the wind which wasn’t dealt with properly.

I thought the first half we didn’t cope with the 2nd phase and Burnley were first to it on most occasions. But for the first 45 minutes we should have been level.

As for the second half we bossed it and missed some glaring chances. If the score was level at half time we would have gone on to win this game I am sure. Yet again we are the making of our own downfall. Let’s move on and make sure we turn over a woeful Newcastle side on Friday night.

Still annoyed by this result. This is one that got away. They are relegation fodder. We gave them 3 points. I'm actually expecting the same against Newcastle.

Here's my bet: Roy will replace Eze, who was our best player, with Schlupp for Newcastle. Let's see.

Maybe, maybe not. I think not...when I think of '' fodder '' I think of Fulham, West Brom...Burnley know what it takes to stay in this league and to a degree demonstrated that against us. Interesting that many on here propose Dyche as a Hodgson replacement.

I would certainly bring Schlupp in on Friday, but would not pair Ayew and Bats.

I genuinely thought Burnley were awful. To not be relegated will be relying on three of the sh1ttest teams to ever be in the Premiership. You rightly point out that Fulham are that, but if they get rid of Parker, I reckon their squad is better than ours.
WBA are chamionsip standard in the Premier League - so will go down.
I reckon the other spot is between Brighton, Burnley and Sheff Utd. Newcastle could be in the mix. I put Brighton for obvious reasons of bias. The worst of these is Burnley. They have a small squad with not much real quality. Their strength is battling, their style cannot be called style. Hoof ball in the old adage. Relegation fodder who may just escape by trying hard and then go down next season.
After seeing them over the last two seasons, I really don't want Dyche at Palace. He offers little except fighting spirit. Pearson is better at that and has better tactics anyway - I also don't want him. Roy will do his thing and has done his thing but we need a kick up the backside and he's not going to do it.
As for Schlupp, I presume you're not advocating we drop Eze for him? Eze was the best player on the pitch, by some margin. A genuine talent. I'm still p1ssed as to why he didn't take our corners and free kicks. Who knows why?

You presume right !

If individuals are going to be dropped on the strength of the Burnley game, then Townsend, Bats and Ayew must be in that mix.

As for relegation candidates, sadly I think Brighton will do enough to stay up. Sheffield have their work cut out - probably have to wait until they play us for their first win !

Good points. I just have this sneaky feeling Roy will drop Eze for Schlupp. And then we will just have to watch two of the other three ponce about. Ayew will likely come good, presume he was fecked from the international break. The other two have no such excuse. Bats is a luxury we can't afford. If he scores a brace next game, all is forgiven of course!

I suppose, looking back at the Burnley game, we gifted them their goal and we had much more of the second half, with their goalkeeper Pope making point-blank saves from Benteke twice and Batshuayi.

We never took our chances, Burnley created precious little and really didn't deserve to take all the points.

Well, if that's all his team has to offer, what is Dyche meant to do?

Dyche has no choice and no money to strengthen his team, that’s why they bang it upfield and hope for the best, and we duly obliged..

I kind of agree, but I think he does it the way he wants to. I always get the feeling he looks for hard working players rather than flair players. Just my opinion, but that suggests he may not like Zaha's style, for example. I just don't think he could get the most out of some of ours. I could be totally wrong.
I accept your argument that his choice is limited by a limited squad. I could say that he's getting a lot out of them, but that isn't going to do any good if they go down. I can't see them winning much playing like that. Fulham look much more likely to score.
The goal we conceded was a Calamity of errors, and our decision making and execution poor. But we even looked much better than Burnley over the 90 minutes. I'm wondering what the relegation odds are now!

Central defender starter for ten:

You are called on to defend a high ball - do you:

Head the ball away from danger?

Head the ball back into the danger area?

Striker starter for ten:

You are one on one with the goal keeper, who has gone down early - do you:

Shoot straight at the goalkeeper's legs?

Chip the goalkeeper?
