Many of those turning up in Germany are from the Balkans. I applaud them for taking in so many refugees and for managing to send the less desperate cases back. Perhaps Germany have used up all the unoccupied homes of the wealthy or maybe they're just missing a trick not taking these hard working people. I mean it's not like they have the strongest economy in the EU or anything... This is the country whose asylum figures the left have repeatedly referred to so now I want you to draw a broad line between those we actually have duty to look after, and those who want a 'better life' whom we have zero moral obligation to, without repeatedly leaning to the side of taking more and justifying it with ridiculous notions such as boosts to the economy, or to cover a skills shortage because they're all highly trained, or because 'we can'.

Weird thing, but that's pretty much what every left winger on here has said, genuine cases only please. Doesn't have to be just war, oppressive regimes etc count as significant. Chancers can f**k off as far as I'm concerned, provided they're processed fairly and without political bias (ie not in a way similar to how ATOS judged disability).

.................................................... I'm wondering then Stirling if you'd make it a priority then to revoke that part of the immigration rules that gives automatic right to enter and live here to anyone who is a Commonwealth citizen who had a parent who was a British citizen born here. The actual "migrant" doesn't need to have ever had any connection with the UK. Could be the child of someone who,for example, emigrated to Australia 60 years ago. Only thing is, I think many of the people (could be wrong) are from the old Commonwealth.Funny, but for some reason, you seem to hear people (say Farage as an example) bang on about "migrants" but only the ones of a different colour of ethnicity and not mention this group.Could there be any reason for that? If you genuinely want to help the "British" working class, wouldn't that be your starting point, eliminating a fast track for people significantly benefiting those of only one race/ethnicity and where there's no tie in of free movement of goods and services benefiting the UK, and promoting an immigration policy (given on any analysis even if current non EU rules were applied to EU nationals as you wish, immigration numbers might be reduced but likely 200,000 per annum)) not based on any seeming discrimination of grounds of race or ethnicity? I don't give a monkey's about your skin colour....That's skin pigment and genetics. I do care about a person's culture and how much I can relate to it......But that's a question of social cohesion and a different topic....I don't believe in an 'EU free pass.' As far as this affects immigration, it doesn't. Immigration could be based upon a country's view of how much an individual is needed within its system.....Like Australia's points system. Plus a certain flexible number of political asylum cases. A nation state's first priority should be towards its own nationals and their job and housing prospects......Immigration figures should partly be affected by that concern. Interculturalism, is a facet of social theory that's the most significant that Blairite Multiculturalism misses, the manner in which different cultures in a society communicate, interact and propergate into one another. Arguably its the very important bit.

Those who advocate open door immigration.....which we currently have from the EU or indeed from anywhere else just simply don't care about the British lower class. The length of time it takes to build housing or the cost doesn't really factor into their thought process. This isn't even taking into account the feelings of any local population to having the character of their living places changed by massive population increases over short times......No if they object to that they are labelled racists in their own country. Nor is there any care as too how the local job market is affected. Edited by Stirlingsays (20 Aug 2015 11.47am)

Good grief. What is it with people arguing over isms ? The migrant issue a practical one. We have pros and cons like with most things. Unfortunately, most of the pros are for business and the already wealthy. Oh and let's not forget a better range of restaurants. The cons are religion, separatism, suppressed wages, sectarianism, national security, cultural erosion, enforced acceptance, stress on services etc etc. This ain't about isms people, this is about daily life.
