Clinton Morrison was just on SSN. He said he speaks to Freedman often and he knows for a fact that the manager will have £65m to spend this pre-season. Oh great, so other teams know exactly what they can squeeze out of us now, that's handy.

2 more years! Can't say his end of season flurry hasn't earnt an extension, good news IMO Well surely that means the new manager has already been appointed but has yet to be announced. Otherwise why would you offer a contract to a player who the new guy might want to get rid of?

I have worked for a number of companies (overseas) where senior management have either made staff changes between regional management appointments (whilst there was no one in the senior local position to object) or given the guy the new regional management job telling him the changes that they want implemented for when he takes up the role - in other words you can have the job but this is how things are going to be / this is what you have to work with.

I think this is sound business as he started to show at the end of the season what a bit of confidence can do. His overall contribution to the team, holding up balls and defending corners has also shown he is an under rated team player. Pleased to see this.

If that is the case then if Zaha were to leave, and I don’t think he will, the new manager would have a pretty sizeable amount of money to work with.

This is precisely the director of football model. It would be best if the new manager was in place and could agree on who we keep, lose, sell and buy with the DoF but as a business, the club cannot sit still completely while recruitment of the new manager concludes. Palace know they won't have Batshuyi and Wickham next year (presumably) and the risk of the new manager saying he wants nothing to do with Benteke is low, whilst the risk of losing the player is medium to high, so they've acted. Townsend might be raising an eyebrow, given he was told new contracts are on hold until the manager arrives, but each case is different.

For sure - We dont know exactly how long ago Townsend was told that contracts are on hold until a new manager is appointed, this is surely an unfolding situation where even though the original statement "in principle" may still stand it would be wrong to hold fire if the decision to renew or not makes sound commercial sense. Well let’s hope this is an indication of the new managers intention to play with tricky wide players who will deliver crosses for CB to feed off.
