I am not going to argue but Hoddle thought it was no more than a yellow as he quite rightly said, Luka was sent off for the follow through and there was nothing he could do to get his foot out of the way. Tough, sliding tackles are being eradicated from the game albeit with the assistance of inconsistency from referees Whenever I entered the debate apropos referees or refereeing decisions, this was the catalyst for a dastardly WILLO thread so in the interests of HOL I will stay well clear of this subject!

Our full backs were both rusty. Wolves exploited that excellently. I'm not sure we had any other options. We could have started with Mitchell and Kelly but it wouldn't have helped.

I suppose an alternative shape could have been a three man back line with the 'Rusty' full-backs deployed as wing-backs to stop the marauding runs down the flanks but as we know Hodgson does not stray from his defensive shape. In terms of our attacking threat, in pre-season Hodgson was calling for new players to increase the goal tally. We signed Eze but he has been a bit-part player and Batshuayi probably wouldn't have started the last few games had Ayew been available.

Had a texting chat with a mate today who thought Hodgson took the easy way out last night and played the same 11 that beat a poor Fulham side rather than picking his strongest available 11? Thoughts were that Tomkins and Cahill are our best two central defenders with Sakho a close 3rd and that Luka, McCarthur and Kouyate being the best 3 in midfield. We both felt Reidewald is being overrated and doesn’t make the strongest 11 when all are fit to play? I agree with him that Hodgson was lazy last night in picking that starting 11 when we have better players to bring in now? Tomkins could even had played right back with Sakho alongside Cahill rather than playing Clyne who looked off the pace. Just opinions and I guess many have different 11’s than me :-)

I did not hear what they said, however "Intent" does not enter the equation. Well “ intent” means plan or aim, doesn’t mean you carried it out. You can’t get a life sentence for someone you thought about killing, can you?

I was thinking about a back three but came to the conclusion it would probably be worse. Kelly or Sakho would have been exposed more badly than Kouyate and Dann were already. Wolves had the jump on us, they were frankly much more up for it. We looked like a team of wet blankets. They looked like a match-sharpened, well-oiled machine.

It really surprises me to see som many people excuse our humiliating defeat by how good Wolves are. If so, why is it they only - and with difficulty - scored one goal against Newcastle, Leeds and Fulham? The obvious reason is the Roys pathetic tactics gave them a motorway down each flank - what any team attacking with flair enjoys and exploits. Roy is ready for retirement.

Agreed. We dont try to play to score until when we are behind! Originally posted by PatrickA
It wasn’t a terrible performance but our tactics didn’t work in the early part of the game when they kept on getting down the sides and scored two goals.

All very correct, to come out of this only was our neat interchangeable one twos and crisp passing which was an improvement to say the least moving forward so it wasn't a complete disaster, we were somewhat fortunate the score wasn't worse because we do not close teams down quickly enough, we are way too open and easy.

it didn't look like ten inches but if it was it's a comforting thought
