Everyone is blaming Roy's tactics but the players must also except their share of responsibility. Sky From what former players have said, Roy's training is based on formation, formation, formation. No individual skill, no set players. Our team rarely loses it's shape. We are difficult to break down and will catch teams on the break here and there. He also, repeatedly set up with three defensive midfielders that were poor passes last season which constantly put us under pressure. This year he's switched to two, which will make the situation worse. Thankfully Reidewald has finally been given a chance but I still think we need a midfield 3. It's the same old mistakes from Roy time and time again, there's no sign of us building towards anything, there's no indication that Roy has anything in the locker to turn this around. When Dunk was sent off yesterday, he did at least look fired up for the game, which is more than I can say of our team. I'd hope Parish is looking around to see who he can bring in.

It is a mad statistic that in (I think) the last 24 games in which we've taken the lead we haven't lost, winning 19 of them. Based on that and a solid points total for 5 games, in which being honest 7 points is probably more than many of us might have expected given the teams we were playing, you should read that paragraph and think 'Wow, what a good job Roy is doing'. But for me it is covering up a worrying trend. I said throughout last season that if the points dry up people will quickly turn on Roy due to his negative approach, but now I think most of us are getting to the point where even points aren't enough. In the past people would've said that had we won people wouldn't be complaining, but I think even if we had won many of us still would be complaining this time. We are living through bleak times and many of us have a multitude of worries. The Palace games should be the one highlight of the week but they are actually making me feel worse these days. I know there are bigger things in the world - my wife has been told her cancer has spread and will have to start more chemo next week - but Roy has to understand right now we need something to believe in beyond just grinding out points like a homeless guy w@nking off a monkey to pay for a sandwich. The hard part is, sacking Roy would be like sticking your grandad in a nursing home (in fact that analogy is probably quite literal in this case). I'm going to hope Steve has a word in Roy's ear to let him know that fans have been calling Dignitas to ask if they take football teams. Who knows, maybe we'll turn Fulham over and Zaha will smile when he scores. Or maybe I'll go back to paying a homeless man to w@nk off a monkey.

I have remained firmly on the fence with regards to Roy, I would never vehemently defend nor persecute him as I always viewed both arguments as actually quite valid and had yet to take a side. I have been reluctant to comment so far but reading your post, particularly the bold, I have to admit the pendulum is starting to swing for me and I almost have a feeling of being robbed of watching Palace play the majority of weekends the last few seasons with this being yet another, irrespective of the result. I actually feel less worried about us then I feel perplexed by our performances these days with patience now beginning to strain. Wishing the best for your wife.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

A decent balance of both sides of the equation. I feel pretty much the same however my patience ran out about a year ago. I hope your wife's treatment goes well, there are always more important things than football.

I have reached the stage where I would far rather watch chess on live TV than watch us play our turgid brand of football. Yesterday was totally and utterly dire and whoever we bring in, the football is the same.I suspect nothing will change whilst Hodgson is at the helm.

Palace were set up to play like that from minute one, and it's all looking a bit suspiciously like the end of last season. We'll be in relegation trouble by Xmas and fans will ask how did it come be, we have some good attacking players, why do we cede possession to teams as bad as us? Hodgson is on a downward spiral and I don't think he has anything in the locker to turn it round.
