And we all know how this is going to go Silvertop - He signs for West Ham (for free) and Bowen, Benrahma and the fullbacks will feed CB lovely crosses from the wings and he’ll be a roaring success - with Moyes playing to his strengths.

We’ll all be asking ourselves “why he didn’t play like this for the Palace”!

It’s So Palace!

Sadly, you will probably be right. The only silver lining from that scenario is that Mateta turns out to be a real gem and gets us 20 goals next season

I can dream, can't I?

Does this mean we have now chosen a manager . We have been told no contracts until a manager is chosen ?

Probably knew he could bully them into giving him two years as they can't sign anybody else.
Really on his overall performance we shouldn't be giving him anything more than six month or one year contracts. Would love to know the terms of the deal.

It's possible that Parish has asked the candidates about certain players if they all said yes then no need to wait.

Or as some suspect Parish and Freedman make the decisions and the incoming manager has to lump it.

He could prove to be a very good target man for the right team/manager. He wasn’t utilised to his full potential under Hodgson...although he did defend corners quite well.

I just hope he shows the goal scoring return of this season and not his previous two.

I also hope he has only signed on reduced terms as our wage bill is ridiculous for a club of our size and revenue stream. I do however appreciate that to buy an alternative oven ready Premier League striker would cost us ITRO of £20M plus.

And if the new manager doesn’t fancy him we might now be able to get a bit of a fee for him.

Clinton Morrison was just on SSN. He said he speaks to Freedman often and he knows for a fact that the manager will have £65m to spend this pre-season.
By keeping Benteke it just means that the new manager can spend the money on other positions that are more urgent.

Bentenke showed in the second half of the season that he is still capable of being a top PL striker. Even if he continues to pick up his £6m per year salary, that's still significantly cheaper than taking a punt on someone else who would cost £15-20m+ in addition to wages. I think Palace probably realised he is one of the few players whose contracts are expiring that there might be strong demand for and so they made their move. Hopefully Townsend and Cahill follow suit. The others I'm more relaxed about.
