If he is offered a 1 year extension it has got to be on reduced terms, I mean who else would pay him what he is on currently? Which is what exactly? It seems to be common knowledge what he was being paid when he joined but he has already had his contract renegotiated once and no-one outside of the inner sanctum knows what his current wages are and it's probably nowhere near what he was originally being paid

I'd be surprised if he isn't on £100k, but even that could be a near 20% reduction from the previous contract. I have been one of his biggest critics over the last few years but i am delighted with his current form. His goal yesterday was exactly what i've been hoping to see over the last 4 or so years. It was a fantastic cross and he was in the right position to attack it. He also didn't go for power. just accuracy. How often has he missed sitters from a few yards out because he's trying to break the net? I would not be unhappy if he was given a 1 year extension with a lower basic and higher performance element. There's logic in what you say, but we should keep in mind that even an almost unprecedented run of goalscoring form in recent weeks hasn't allowed Beneteke to overtake Zaha in the scoring charts, and this when Wilf is apparently 'disinterested and sulking'. I think I'd far rather Wilf stays, even if it means we don't sgn a good crosser to play out wide and serve Beneteke.

Somehow Benteke has now reached double figures for league goals this season. That puts him above the likes of Mane and Firmino, and on the same number of league goals as Cavani, Antonio, Sterling and Aubameyang. Quite incredible.

He'll sign a contract extension and then we'll go back to not crossing the ball to him!

Blimey! Wish I hadn't looked at this. Should've practiced more in the park. When I left school my first job was based in a hanger on Croydon Aerodrome. My second job at the RAC in Landsdowne Road paid 8 quid a week and I thought I'd made it in the big time.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
