I think people may have to temper their expectations, especially with regards to the number of signings. I feel people on here band around numbers they think we need that are a way off what the club will realistically be able to achieve and are then despondent when that number is not achieved. I cannot see the club brining any more than 5 new playing staff into the club at an absolute maximum. More likely three. Pressure will then be put on PV to fill the gaps in the squad with players that have come through the clubs academy/development squad.

I really hope PV recognises and encourages talent from the academy. Roy was a bit reticent in this I think. 2 or 3 useful and enthusiastic recruits from there could make a big difference.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

I'm surprised there is significant negativity concerning PV's appointment and prospects of success. He was a top top player, by all accounts a respected coach and has some management experience. But I suppose some of you can potentially say "I told you so" in due course, so I hope that's some comfort for you. Personally I'm excited to see where we are by Christmas and if we're bottom then I'll eat humble pie. I wonder if the naysayers will do the same if he's a success? 1. He is NOT a respected coach....yet.

If Vieira proves to be a success, I suspect other clubs higher in the 'Food chain' will come calling if they wish to replace their managers. On a general point, had the club appointed Lampard,Dyche,Favre,Nuno, HOL would be awash with excitement and there would have been a real sense of optimism.I don't sense these emotions at the present time. Edited by Willo (06 Jul 2021 1.38pm) Not in my case. They all had their plus points but also their negatives. I think PV is a bold appointment and with risk comes excitement.

I think Vieira will prove to be a good choice. He was a World-class player and has some useful managerial experience and will have gained from his time at City under Mancini. This should all be doable and all the talk of relegation should cease. Come on, be positive! COYP! Townsend/Cahill NOT resigning, according to rumours.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

It's great to see the smiling faces in the photos coming out of Vieira's first sessions. It might be a simplistic view, but our team always seems to play at its best when the players appear happy, rather than looking in despair because they're a goal behind. A positive attitude can go a huge way to overcoming any perceived inferiority when playing against so-called bigger teams.

Now he's here and he's made a few noises I am personally very pleased, hopeful and optimistic. He has a great pedigree having gone through the Man City set up, he did well for two full seasons at Nice, there are always negative aspects, he is clearly no mug, there is a good set up in place and I have every confidence that he'll be able to make the changes he needs game by game to get results we need. It shows how far we've come that so many of us can feel trepidation at having as manager someone of the calibre of Patrick Vieira.

Guaita That looks really weak - it needs signings to genuinely impact the starting 11. We released Sam Woods. Rak-Sakyi isn't at the standard yet either, way too lightweight - evident just by watching U23 football let alone Premier League, and not good enough to get around that David Silva style. Looking forward to seeing who we can get - we can offer genuine first team football which has to be attractive.
