If he didn't want to accept a pay cut his options are limited, not sure many PL clubs would pay that salary and nobody in the Championship. In Europe many of the top clubs have admitted they are in financial trouble whilst in China the era of mega pay deals now seems over. He may still get a pay day in the USA but other than that I think he will have to take a pay cut with or without us. There was lots of talk about this when his contract was extended last year and I’m sure it was reported that he accepted a reduced salary. Or Is the £120k per week the reduced salary?

Can't be true that he was on more than 120pw at any stage, surely? I'd give him 60pw plus 15 for every goal, and 10 for every assist. And a bollocking.

His salary was never reduced he is still on 120k a week, if we had offered him a reduced contract before his contract had finished he would have been entitled to a free transfer, i think parish gambled on extending it hoping that he would improve and someone would come in, now that doesn't matter because the Jan window came and went, as a free he will get more money elsewhere than the 60k we might offer. Eze is on 30K and Ayew 32.500k both are better than Benteke.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Footballers salaries should be public information.

As far as I can remember he was at the end of his current contract and we offered him a new 1 year one. There must be a thread on here somewhere that covers all this but in a brief search I couldn’t find it. I would have been amazed if a failing striker was offered £120k per week.

Only Crystal Palace could extend the contract of a player who has held back potential other signings because of his original transfer fee and outrageous salary has meant the money that might have been used elsewhere has been tied up in retaining the services of a complete duffer. What other club would extend the contract of a striker who in 3 seasons had scored the grand total of 6 goals?

Hahaha. We can't sell him. He can go for free this summer as he's out of contract. Even if he signs a new four year deal I doubt we'd ever recoup anything much for him in terms of transfer fee now, as he is not only crap but also getting old.

Has to go and with this being a “no brained” I just do not understand the logic of JP sitting on the bench and CB starting.

I'd be surprised if he'd get £20K pw anywhere. We've all become immune to sheer magnitude of players' pay. His job here was as a striker. He has failed abysmally in that role. It may not have helped him being in a Roy system but he has failed nevertheless. Everyone in football knows that. He is worthless IMV.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |
