Of all the problems with our football club, Benteke isn't one of the bigger ones. We put crosses in the box, he scores. He's shown that over the last few weeks. Problem: we don't put cross in the box. We fanny around with it on the edge of the box until a flick doesn't come off. I think someone earning £120k a week is a problem if they miss as many chances as Benteke does. He’s improved this season, and I get why he’s starting, but the bar was pretty low

He had a great opportunity from I think an Eze corner during the Leicester match but headed it straight at Schmeichel, placing it in either corner it would have been a goal. Should have done better! Yes Benteke wins the majority of headers against defenders but we still don't make the most of it in terms of possession, opportunities or shots on target!!

Vardy 136 in 303 for Leicester. So it's nearly 1 in 4 vs nearly 1 in 2. I expect we would love a Vardy type player. He'd be a hero for us and there's no reason for Leicester to slag Vardy off. He's done excellently for them and nearly always plays his heart out.

just saying that Vardy misses loads of chances [ because he gets more ] and the supporters don't have a go at him . If Benteke was able to get as many chances a Vardy does , he may have got a lot more goals .

think to be honest if we are letting wickham go, and (i assume) not taking up our £20m option on bats then a new contract for benteke at the current £70k a week makes sense. it would cost us a fortune to replace him, and you know what...i quite like him. if however we are going to sign bats then he has to make way & mateta has a season to prove he would be a valuable signing.

But the issue for me is that he doesn't move into space, he looks lethargic and often seems behind the game. At least Vardy goes looking for opportunities instead of expecting them to drop in front of him. Never have rated him and didn't want him in the first place. Please go.

I do understand that benteke likes crosses, but I'm not convinced at all that if we supply a higher number of balls into the box from wide then he will score lots of goals. For one thing, the percentage of goals resulting from crosses (especially headed goals) has always been really low. If it was such a reliable source of goals then why do so few teams play with a big forward and old fashion wide men? Premier league football clubs are all over the stats, and if they've moved away from crosses and headers it's for a reason. More to the point, he misses loads of chances from crosses, or even worse, often doesn't get anywhere near them. Nobody gets their head on every cross of course, but Benteke seems to want the ball literally delivered to his head without moving. If I had a pound for every time I've seen him rooted to the spot, hiding behind the last defender when he should be getting across the face of the goal, attacking the space as a decent cross goes begging, I'd have about as much money as Benteke makes in a short lunchtime. It's fair to say that Benteke might do a bit better if the team was built around him, but that doesn't mean he's good enough to build the team around. Despite the above, I'd personally keep him if he'll accept a reduced wage, preferably with significant incentives built in. As average as he is, there's no guarantee we can sign enough better forwards that we would cease to need Benteke.
