Immigration policy has been spelt out. It will be based on education and skills. Therefore higher levels of educated families from Asia and far east and ex commonwealth (like Hong Kong) no instant access from EU, educated or not. Employers will be aghast at being compelled to take on labour selected by the drate6 and not selected through the normal recruitment route. This is communism.

Papers are saying that the EU may be caving in. Being cynical I read that as Boris is throwing in the towel, I hope not.

Brexit is Margaret Thatcher's true legacy. 'I need a scape-goat'. Ordering her ministers to blame Brussels for her disastrous economic failures. 'Nigel (Lawson) has messed it all up, now he must fix it'. And what a target Brussels has been. Totally unprepared to be portrayed as bureaucratic and anti-democratic, they even thought because the UK was a member, we were friends. Now, it is an impossibility for the British to do anything but blame the EU for all their self-inflicted disasters.

From Jan 1 the government has no one to blame so politicians in this country will need to start taking responsibility for things like immigration amongst many other things. If they don';t deal with the issues they will be kicked out at the next election and quite rightly. Taking control means just that the voters saying you've had 5 years and you're not good enough and we don't accept your excuses.

Sure we will have no one to blame for our mistakes and that is just how I like it. We will become better by learning from them like everyone does.

If we could build a great big wall all around the UK and never let anyone in, or out, ever again, and become totally self-sufficient in every aspect of life, feeding ourselves and manufacturing all we needed, then your plan might work. We would of course have to commit huge sums to our defence too. Life would be very hard and really boring. A bit like North Korea without the fun. There is though a basic problem. The people wouldn't accept it for a moment. The rest of the world exists. We are part of it and if they now think globally we have no choice than to do so too. They are both our customers and our suppliers. Today's world is interdependent. Mess with it and it's you that gets hurt.

It's been confirmed that Big Ben will bong on the 31st of December as we transition from the EU.

Brexit is about expanding our horizons beyond the EU not pulling up the drawbridge. Yes we want a sensible immigration policy but that should be in the control of the elected government. When Labour next win I have no doubt that they will adjust the policy as is their right. As for self sufficiency what sensible person would not be in favour of it. Do we really want to rely on Russia and the Middle east for our energy? As for food I am fine with importing it especially the exotics but would prefer the basics to be home grown we were 6 weeks from starvation during WW2. Brexit should be an outward looking UK in control of its own affairs and trading with other nations. In this century the growth markets will not be US and Europe but the rest of the world we have a great opportunity to exploit that.
