We havn’t been at risk of relegation since Roy has steadied the ship. Say what you want about Roy but he knows when it’s time to shut up shop and pick up the necessary points.

Fulham are unbeaten in the last 5 in fact have only lost 4 in the last 17 picking up 19pts. Newcastle Lost 11 of their last 17 picking up 12pts. Originally posted by Willo
Both Fulham and Newcastle have won 2 of their last 6 games so there hasn't been a significant differential between their forms over this period. Newcastle of course have injuries to key players IE Wilson,Almiron and Saint-Maximim.

Roy has done a steady job to keep us up for yet another season and we are safe barring an appalling run of defeats and a strong performance by teams well below us,which is extremely unlikely.

This is an endorsement for the work of Mr Hodgson at our club, keeping us in the PL season-on-season on a relative pittance. We are still not safe from a mathematical standpoint and there could be many twists and turns as the season draws to a close.

I get what Willo is saying, if we were to lose the next 11 games we could still go down (would probably deserve it on that basis), and we do have some very tough games coming up. But current form does not imply that outcome. The games against WBA (h), Sheff U ( a ) and Aston Villa are really important. Edited by si_1967 (04 Mar 2021 3.00pm)

The 7 points we have just picked up (excluding the Man Utd point) were much needed and have changed the whole perspective of our position within the league relative to those below us. February was always going to be our make or break month and so it has proven with 2 wins, 2 losses and one draw. When your aim is one point per game or more ie 38 points a season plus, then 7 points from 5 games is bang on target. Roy virtually said as much last night when we said Brighton and Fulham were must not lose matches. Can I excuse the way we played? I certainly find it difficult to do so but we have achieved what we set out to do. I suppose the major gripe is why the intent we showed against Utd wasn’t there against Leeds, Burnley, Brighton and Fulham. Still, I now believe we are safe and the third team to go down will be Fulham, Brighton or Newcastle.

A couple or three losses for us on the bounce coupled with a couple or three wins below us and we will be sweating.

Newcastle have an easier run in than Fulham, whose remaining games are at least as tough as ours. Willo posted the Toon's next five games as follows:
They could pick up a fair number of points from those (we can only hope they draw against WBA, Brighton and Burnley so that a point is lost in each of those games). Fulham's next five are Can't see them getting too many points from those. As for us, we play 8 of the remaining 9 top 10 teams plus the bottom two and Southampton. We should get over the 40 point mark ok (as we have in all 7 of our previous PL campaigns since we came up).
