Kevin Friend was whistle happy, he was blowing for even the slightest touch. Grealish knew this and thought that by flinging himself to the ground he would get a free kick or a pen. However Grealish didn't take into account was the number of times he had already gone down very easily (and dramatically) and doing it this time was the last straw. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Kevin Friend was whistle happy, he was blowing for even the slightest touch. Grealish knew this and thought that by flinging himself to the ground he would get a free kick or a pen. However Grealish didn't take into account was the number of times he had already gone down very easily (and dramatically) and doing it this time was the last straw.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

This is what a lot of players do when they think there might be a close decision, they try and deflect attention from the situation by pretending they are injured. Seen it hundreds of times to try and escape cards. Friend honestly thought he made no contact otherwise it would have been a simple penalty to give. I have slowed it down frame by frame and I cannot see sufficient contact with Cahill to warrant a penalty. Now whether there was a push by Zaha that led to him diving in spectacular fashion is another argument.

That's a ridiculous statement by Jenas. It was a marginal call that looks perfectly reasonable under scrutiny and Friend was entitled to make it. It was not a blatant error by any reading. The commentators are still frothing on about VAR. The circumstances when it is used have been defined and you can't go outside those. There is also clearer guidance now on whether to overturn a ref's decision. The mistake has to be clear-cut rather than a matter of judgment or discretion. The same arguments have surrounded VAR in cricket, where the umpire is allowed discretion and a margin of error. There may be some fuzzy edges, but VAR is 100 times better than not being able to overrule blatant mistakes. One other thing: it's actually all Tekkers' fault. If he had held up the ball, instead of taking a hopelessly optimistic shot that led to their goal kick that led to the Grealish incident, none of this would have happened. Just heard Mark Halsey on Talksport the referee could have allowed play to continue and then checked with VAR after the goal was scored. Once he blew the whistle the only decision VAR could consider is did Grealish dive or was it a penalty. Halsey felt it wasn't a dive. One more point

Once he blew the whistle the only decision VAR could consider is did Grealish dive or was it a penalty. Halsey felt it wasn't a dive.
