Yeah, that's good it got moved. And stirling, I don't have the time or desire to explain to you how backward it is for you to carry on like this or imagine out loud wearing the Confederate flag to piss people off. Good luck with everything, you sad man.
You're the sado mate and I'm just glad I don't know you. Edited by Stirlingsays (18 Jul 2015 12.37am)

Yes I read his post. I'm not sure where to start. I dont think he was right to bring your colour into the discussion. But the rest of it seems fair. I'm afraid you dont have to have a white boss to live in a world where there is white privilege - in my opinion. But this is another discussion for another thread. Happily this now is in general talk - which I normally avoid. See ya I'm off to the Palace/Transfer forums Of course there is 'white' privilege. But there is also non white privilege....The whole racial point is ridiculous and one he brought up. The richest man in Britain is Asian....Asians are five percent of the population yet contribute ten percent of GDP and that's great.....He singled out race I didn't. Yet you say you had read his post....Yet you questioned my post, not his, saying why skin colour mattered....And then you go.....Mmmmm...Yeah, seems fair that. Look - I read his post and pointed out where I disagreed with him. Your argument that your boss being Asian somehow makes it impossible that you cannot be privileged is reductive - to say the least. But it's something I'm guilty of when making off-the-cuff responses so don't sweat it.

If you were bothered by the introduction of skin colour into the discussion you should have addressed his post...Well at least first. Also...As I have already said, I never said there was no 'white' privilege....Privilege is everywhere. However the idea that there is only 'white' privilege is also a nonsense so it being brought into the argument is suggestive of a racial issue with the poster. Yet I was the focus of your reply even though you said you had read his post first. That niggles me....that's all.

PS: still waiting for the Earl of Cambridgeshire to post vids of himself pirouetting around the land with a Confederate flag draped over his shoulders tonelessly trying to remember the words to Rebel Yell by Billy Idol.

yeah this interview concerning the Rebel County waving the Confederate flag is a good way for defenders of it to spend 11 minutes.

I am as naive as most on here to what a black American's perception of the flag might be. Ask Obama what he thought of being greeted with them in Oklahoma today. That wasn't a mark of racism. Neither was the HF's use. I'd be defending the use of the St George's flag if England had failed to defeat racism and had let it become a symbol of hate. The Nazis liked an eagle... Fcuk, the HF's amalgamation was pretty bad. Edited by johnfirewall (16 Jul 2015 7.17pm) that's exactly what it was. the state he was in wasn't even a part of the confederacy. they weren't honoring anyone. they are outright racists, thumbing their nose at a black president. Not quite. Oklahoma ('Indian Territory' at the time) wasn't exactly IN the Confederacy, but it was definitely on their side, at least at the beginning. The (pro-slavery) Cherokee Nation voted to ally itself with the South after the Confederates made promises to them that I've no doubt they would have conveniently forgotten within a decade of having won the war -- and, in fact, it took less than a year for most of the Cherokee to figure out that they had made a disastrously bad decision. Most of the population elected to switch sides, but by then the pro-Confederates were armed and organized into veteran military units, and as a result Indian Territory broke out into a vicious little civil war of its own. I know a little more than most about that section of the war because most of my family that was here at the time lived through it right around there, on the far western edge of Arkansas, just a skip over from the Oklahoma border. And by 'lived through it', I don't necessarily mean 'survived'.

Flags are for rallying groups together under an identity. What they represent is for the groups or for individuals themselves to decide. Opponents of the Confederate flag wish to decide for others what this flag represents. I'm inherently against that position. Of course the slavery connection is there but it does not mean that people waving the flag are representing that. Some Hindus still use the swastika symbol as is their right. It existed in there's and other Asian traditions long before the Nazi's used it. At the end of the day, people wave a flag for reasons best expressed by them. I like the 'disclaimer' idea written up on the thread earlier......That would be, in my eyes, the best way to deal with the issue.
