Lets just get behind Vieira and give the man a chance. All manager appointments are a shot in the dark for any club. The best can fail anywhere or be a hero anywhere. I'm glad we finally have someone to lead us into the next season before all the best players have been snapped up.

You never know he might be just brilliant. I think he may have to be with the task he faces. First home game give him a proper Palace reception!
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

Looking at the pictures of Vieira on the training pitch his sheer physical presence and confident demeanour suggest to me that at least to begin with he'll quickly get the players onboard and willing to fight for him. Players who have previously worked under him have spoken of his ability to keep things simple and to communicate effectively, which is very different from what we heard about FdB. Wilf is also an Arsenal fan, so I think he'll probably like this appointment (if he doesn't leave). As has been said elsewhere, the key will be getting an experienced assistant alongside him for when things aren't going so well. This Welsh chap sounds ideal if we can get him. The key to our hearts will be if we can smash our opponents in game six of the season!

I cannot believe how so many seem to be writing this appointment off as a disaster. When you have players like David Silva saying he is one of the best coaches he has played under, that will do for me.
Vieira is a winner and a leader and is up for the challenge despite knowing that the club had wanted to appoint other names before him. He wants to make his mark in the PL and I'm more than happy for him to make that mark with us. I just hope that the board will now back him with the transfer funds that will have been promised him and will give him time to settle. In many ways our tough start to this campaign may work in our favour as the more winnable games (in the main) don't come until late October onwards. If it's true that he was sent to New York in preparation to replace Guardiola had Guardiola not extended his contract, then that says a lot about Vieira's status as a potential PL manager in the eyes of the Citeh hierarchy.

Incredibly upbeat for a doom bear! I hear what you say and agree with most of it although my concerns are more with the players we have than the manager. Wilf off, Eze out, only Benteke currently confirmed as re-signed of the potential leavers. A squad that is yet another year older with our best centre half’s constantly injured, no senior wingers if Townsend goes and our midfield very underwhelming. I reckon we need 5 quality players to be competitive. Will we be able to afford them and attract them?

We need to distinguish between the appointment of the manager and the resources he will have at his disposal come 14th August. If we fail to strengthen our squad with at least 4 or 5 quality players, then it won't matter who is the manager - we will struggle. Even with strengthened resources, it will take time for the squad to gel. I just have a good feeling about Vieira. Don't know why and it may be totally wrong but I'm looking forward to 21st August and being at our first home game.

and let's congratulate Dazza who despite losing money on Lampard and Favre did win on Vieira......... Hopefully no new manager thread for a few years
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Vieira wasn't one of my top choices but I'm quite intrigued to see what he brings to the table now he's here and, specifically, the type of players and style of football that he goes for. The last couple of years have been all about safety, both in terms of supporting Palace and life in general. I'm definitely ready for a change, taking a few risks and the excitement that brings. Cannot wait to get back to Selhurst and get a few beers down me.
