We would only pass it back to Kouyate who would then pass it back to our keeper to lump it upfield to our small forwards to lose it in the air to the opposition defenders - As you can see I’m still seething from watching this happen last night ;-)

What also raised my hackles was that on two occasions we were awarded a free kick just inside their half - we passed the ball back and then back to Guaita.

Agreed, and let’s get two of Cahill, Tomkins and Sakho in the middle of defence. Not sure on my two central midfielders though but perhaps Kouyate should be in alongside one of McCarthur, McCarthy or Reidewald - it won’t happen though :-(

Don't forget Luka

Obviously a game like yesterdays makes one think how lost we are without Zaha.

Tactics, however, was the mail disaster.

Everyone, who has ever played a game a football, know that self confidence is the single most important aspect of a good performance. And that self confidence grows when you succesfully pass the ball, takes it forward and creates chances.

So what did we do yesterday: Sat back, let Burnley control matters and grow and grow in confidence. Off course gifted by the goal, but that would have come anyway.

Instead of pushing them, pressing high and making sure that their confidence did not grow!

This game was lost first and foremost by the scandalour tactics from Hodgson, then by a number of really poor players, but again this happens when tactics are SO WRONG!

Good help us the day Roy is still here, but Zaha gone. We would be in big trouble just to pick up a draw a month.

You fall for the nonsense about not winning without Zaha, we are very capable of not winning with him in the team.
Burnley were lucky last night, they didn’t create much, only getting a lucky break from a Kouyate mistake. They then reverted to how we play after going ahead, pack the defence making it hard to score and frustrating the opposition.
The vast majority of games are won by the team that scores first, Burnley aren’t a bad team, they finish above us regularly at the end of the season.

Spot on. It was a poor game overall but I’l go as far as saying that Palace fans who think we should be hammering Burnley havn’t got a clue about football. Burnley have played the majority of the season with Tarkowski, Mee or Taylor but had them all back last night. The game could have went either way but unfortunately it went to them. Nothing to do with tactics or not being able to win without Zaha. It’s just how football goes.

The elephant in the room is, why pay someone 100k a week to play in Africa during a pandemic? No thanks, you're not going, would be my answer. Has already caused problems for us twice this season. Also Ayew looked totally out of shape yesterday: we need to get a handle on this. The big teams would not be allowing this.

I agree. Burnley are a very organized and capable Premier League team who had all their players back last night.
We were well worth a draw and if we'd had a better final ball and strikers that were on their toes (yes, I mean you Batsman) we would've got a point or more.
If they hadn't got the early goal I think the game would've taken a very different direction.

It was a frustrating night but both us and Burnley are similar and we both sometimes win games like that and sometimes we lose them. Neither of us will go down.

I'm starting to wonder if Roy has lost the players. If you look at the way we came out today, it was awful. Burnley had all the energy, we looked like we were still on holiday.

It's one thing if players screw up (they did), or if tactics are bad (they were), but if our players don't look like they are interested, that's a major negative reflection on the manager.

I believe there is something in that. I've never been a football manager, and there's good reason for that, but... the two things that bug me are back passing and speed of attack.

Nothing worthy of a text book, but if you pass back, you only have 9 players upfield, whereas they have 11. And that ratio coupled with sluggish progress prevents our players finding sufficient space in their half. We are always going to be outnumbered.

Cut the back passes, work on crossing and passing the ball and move up with a decent pace.

Problem solved. Maybe.

What you really mean is that people who don't share your opinions don't have a clue about football.

A poor side like Newcastle managed to put three past Burnley who had both Tarkowski and Taylor playing though admittedly not Mee

Zaha didn’t get Covid in Africa. He didn’t play Ivory Coast’s last 2 games. Liverpool let Salah go and he got Covid. Clubs have no choice.

If your opinion is that we should be hammering Burnley then yes you havn’t a clue. There is not a single game in this division where we can expect to hammer a team.
