Who would you have picked as your starting 11 on Saturday?

I think Roy is looking more jaded recently - there is a reason why there are not many in the game at his age. The fact he is still going shows his love for the game. His fatigue though might be rubbing off on the players. He has been a very safe pair of hands, but I would personally like to see a fresh start for the new season. Someone who can come in and inject a bit more creativity, because the team lacks ideas at the moment. Only Norwich have scored fewer goals this season.

Hodgson has signed a one year deal and will be in charge next season unless he decides to stand down.
He won’t be sacked .
With that in mind our transfer activity should be linked to short term purchases who Hodgson will play e.g Cahill, Ayew type acquisitions.
There is no point wasting money on similar players to Meyer, Sorloth and Camarasa who Roy won’t use and will be a drain on our resources.
Keeping Hodgson encourages a short term mentality.

As I mentioned in an earlier post on this thread, the problem with having a manager on a short term contract must impact the way in which the club approaches the transfer market. Unless of course those transfer targets are not made by the manager but by Dougie Freedman.

I'm not sure if Sean Dyche is serious about leaving Burnley or just playing his Chairman to get a bigger transfer budget, but if he did become available, I think Parish would make a move given that Roy only has a years contract to pay off.

Getting a new manager doesn’t get away from the fact that we literally need a whole new squad. There are drastic changes needed for us to carry on in this division.

Changing the subject slightly did anyone look at the Stats of the match, Leicester committed 18 fouls against our 8.
Most of those were committed against Ayew, Benteke and Zaha when we were in possession and trying to go forwards, not saying those attacks would have led to anytime but they were stopped before they even had a chance. Leicester are pretty clever at doing that, only two bookings, systematic fouling, bit like Watford.

Zara was fouled in the first minute, so just shows you their intentions!

There was a reason that Hodgson in his early 70s was offered a year's contract. I really cannot envisage the club, in effect, sacking Hodgson after he has met his objectives and ensured survival in successive seasons.

Zaha is a grown man and there are 10 other big strong Palace players around him. There wasn’t a single bad foul in the whole game. This is 2020 with Var watching everything not 1956 in your local park.

I agree with this but I also believe that if we lose our next 5 games in the same manner as the last 3 then major questions will have to be asked but I still don’t think they will sack him, purely because of the state of our squad.

I'm well aware of the reason why the contract was only for 12 months.

However in similar vein to the ageing squad, having a manager on those terms doesn't promote long or even medium term thinking.

You will know that I have been and still am a fan of Roys, but I think Parish is in danger of painting himself into a corner with all this short termism.

I take your point about effectively sacking Roy, but it could be all about seizing the opportunity to secure a long term replacement if the right candidate became available.

Absolutely.

That's why I said that having a manager on a short term deal hinders that process.

If I was handing a manager the responsibility of rebuilding a squad I would want him on a longer deal than a year.

With respect my focus wasn't about the length of contract.
My thinking was that Hodgson at his advanced years was still offered a continuation of his role because he has met the club's sole objective of staying in the PL and as such he is trusted to do so again next season. A team in the PL is somewhat more attractive to prospective buyers!!
The football has been uninspiring but the end justifies the means.

I think one of the big reasons I don’t get as angry as a lot of fans this season is because I resigned myself to the fact early in the year that I would just be happy to stay in the league, given the current state of our squad. We may all get a shock and the club may actually have a plan for the medium to long term. This season is all but done and hopefully we have an interesting transfer window.
