I have been chatting to a woman, 42... works in health care, 1 child (13). We've only spoken once on the phone, said she'd rather go out on a week night, but not in the town she lives. Date Or Swerve ? Can you remind us how old you are? 42 sounds well saucy to me, but I'm 35.

There's also another on the horizon, but she's 50... and likes Elvis.

Yes but in all honesty would any of you date or more than date a woman if you found out she had been an escort? I think so, but she's not getting to go on holiday until the 3rd date, and she can pay for half the meal.

Actually, I am useless for advice. I went with the scatter gun approach when I was online dating. I pretty much went on a date with anything that replied to me.

Girls my age want kids/marriage/security. I'm not against that, but it has to be a natural progression. Meet a girl who's 37, and wants kids... they don't half push the issue.. it has to be organic. I'm also (more) selective now... I won't settle for anything that doesn't meet my expectations... which aren't massively high... just want a decent girl, with a decent moral compass. I was always upfront about not wanting kids. On the profile, and on the first date. Russian girls are amazing. I went out with one I met online for a while, who was pretty and fit. What she was looking for was someone who can hold down a job, wouldn't steal from her, didn't drink too much and wouldn't hit her. Even my expectations of a suitable partner were higher than that.

Avoid is my advice

For women, in online dating you can really pick and choose. As a man, you're up against a very big field of competition. I did find that after I'd been on a few months, I got more responses - especially after I posted pictures of me with some female friends. I even got a female friend on Match.Com to write my profile (which further increased responses). From friends and my wife, it seems that men on internet dating sites seriously outnumber the women, and about 20% of them seem to think that junk pictures are suitable substitutes for a first date, and that women will be immediately attracted if their first communication enquires about their fetish.

Avoid is my advice Social workers never go out in the town they live and work in. Its just asking for trouble. Plus I think it can be reasonable for a woman, meeting an unknown man, to not want them to know roughly where they live. Plus they might be concerned about it getting back to the kid if they do, or the kids father - could become an issue if he is interested in custody. Weekend is probably down to the kid. But bonus dice here, if she can't do weekends, then the holidays off the table. Most first dates were first name only. Its remarkably easy to find someones address with a town and full name.
