The reasons for the strike are dubious at best.

You and your 'brethren' really aren't winning over hearts and minds.

And this is all about power. If you had any balls, you would picket London Bridge.

It's not my battle matt. But re picketing london bridge I would think that's probably illegal. They tightened up a lot since the 80's.

You appear to be supporting the strikes.

Here's an example of recent picketing:

It's legal. Why aren't the RMT and ASLEF doing this?

Oh yes I do support it. What I meant is I not working for southern that's all.

Must admit to not being sure of specific rules on picketing. But I know there are rules. Not sure if it would be legal or not for aslef or rmt to picket at London bridge. Could be something about only picketing your normal entrance to the workplace. I really don't know the ins and outs of it. So can't comment unfortunately as to why they're not doing what u suggest.

It's does mention "your workplace". I think the police may argue than london bridge station public entrance or concourse is not the workplace. BUT I could be wrong.

I suspect they won't do it because they haven't got the kahunas to face up to the public.

Well that was how the Southern mess started if I remember right - they didn't strike in the early days, they just all had coordinated sickness (unless there was a bubonic plague epidemic across the south east which only affected train guards). Ironically, that actually weakened their case with me and a lot of the rest of the travelling public, as train after train was cancelled for the want of a guard because so many of them were 'sick', when you knew full well the driver could operate the doors (your safety concerns aside)

If you have 116 staff, and 3 were off sick, would you call that high levels of sickness?
Southern did.

Southern refused to go ACAS.
Been told they have no intention of negotiating, DfT wanted Southern to go just for the PR. I heard this from a relatively high manager at Southern.
Don't believe a word that Southern say about high levels of sickness.
They stopped shift swaps (staff swap shifts to help out with childcare) Southern stopped this with no warning, of course attendance would suffer.

You can suspect matt can't you but you don't actually know.

Also the staff have to face the passengers every other day anyway?

A fact a lot of people are conveniently ignoring!

Even if you hate unions, surely you'd think that the company should be doing everything it can to avoid strikes and inconvenience to its customers. Why won't they go to ACAS, this is what they are for!

Mealy mouthed crap.

You know the strikers don't want to face the public, on a picket line. They are all talk.
