He'd be one hell of an overseas player for a county to get. I'd like to see him at Worcestershire. I think that's highly unlikely as very few have reached the heady heights of captain of the number one ranked team in the world only to retire to the quiet backwater that is county cricket. Paul Collingwood is one of the few who seems to be happy playing the local circuit after having lifted the World Cup Ponting went to play for Surrey. As did Graeme Smith. I must admit that I read it as retiring from all cricket although he didn't actually say that.

I do hope we go out to make it 4-1 after the 5-0 thrashing, no foot off the gas. On another note you've got to say what a classy bloke Michael Clarke is. I've always thought he spoke well and was gracious in defeat as well as victory.
Shame he will retire after the Oval test.
Quality bloke and player. My view as well. But I was suprised that, according to my Brother who lives in Oz, he's not so highly regarded down under . They probably want someone far more loud-mouthed and arrogant to put us poms in our place. They hardly want a reasonable and sporting man whose test average was around the fifty mark.
Some former team mates have been quick to get their knives out too.

They've never taken to him. The surf boy look when he started and putting self promotion, advertising and earnings seemingly over the team cause. Going home from a tour to comfort his girlfriend, before the so called family comes first policy. Some former team mates have been quick to get their knives out too. I'm guessing that Simon Katich would be at the forefront of those happy to put the boot in now

Absolutely pathetic. I called 3-2 before the series started however.

Well this exposes probably the worst side to win an Ashes series. The poverty of our batting has been masked only by Australia's and this is not the first totally unacceptable batting performance. Am I right in remembering that we've only once in the series posted 400 runs? Hopefully this shambles will make sure that the powers that be don't make the mistake of thinking that winning the Ashes means we aren't sh1te.

Looks like we're going to take a gubbing, which takes the gloss off the Ashes win. You would think that Cook would have got it right winning the toss and all, having said that hind sight is a wonderful thing.

Every Test this series has been a one sided affair that has failed to last the full 5 days. This could end in defeat for us today and the pitch is benign. Australia are having a clear out, quite rightly and so should we. Lyth has to go (even if he makes a decent 2nd innings knock) together with Bell who I think has gone past his sell by date. Surely Hales deserves a chance? Got another big hundred yesterday!
