Whom I suspect would not have started the last 2 games if Schlupp was fit. This season we have signed 3 players but not one was thrust straight into the team.I accept that Ferguson is injured.

For a very good reason. They say it takes about 11 games to get up to match speed within a team if you are ever going to properly integrate. Some more, some less. Schlupp is already there. Eze still needs a few weeks but he was chucked in nevertheless and has done OK. He will do better. In time.

I think this was my problem with this thread all along. It built expectation to the point that when the "he's definitely signing next week" becomes "next week" becomes "before the end of the window" becomes he hasn't signed, people become upset that we haven't singed such and such, even if the club have never said we were going to. The same happened with this thread in previous windows.

On paper we have a better squad than last season because we have added three players, two of which are ready for the first team. The question is, with other clubs also strengthening will it be enough? Time will tell. The one player I've wanted since his name was first mentioned by the press about 18 months ago was Eze. We got him, so I'm happy, even if a little disappointed that we didn't show a bit more ambition.

A little harsh. Off the top of my head, the only team as relatively poorly resourced is Burnley. Both of us are testament to prudent sensible business off the field and good player management on. Both continue to punch above their weight but are always high risk for the drop.

Fan expectation is driven by an unrealistic view as to what we can pay fed by what we see immediately around us and the incredible success we have enjoyed for a long time relative to what little we have.

The ground, wage bill and squad age are still issues. The latter is being addressed. The wage bill I doubt will change for the better. I just hope that, post-Covid, we will develop better ways to pay for it. And the ground: who knows?

Right now, and for the foreseeable future, I don't see our business model changing. We will always spend less than others, cling on to this division for dear life and continue to occupy our beloved dump of a ground.

Just get used to it and stop whining.

Just catching up. Did Dazza comment on why his definate signings didn't materialise ?

Did Dazza ever say that they were definite signings. I thought he had always made it clear that he was just passing on information that he was being told?

What about you? What do you know that everyone else doesn't? How do you know that we won't still sign Benrahma before the 16th.

I think he explained about Brewster. I think it was that the initial outlay, coupled with the buy-back clause that Liverpool were insisting on made it a high-risk, low reward purchase. Although I may be putting words in his mouth.

I'm a bit baffled, I simply said that ITK posters created a false sense of expectation again and ended by saying I was a little disappointed we didn't show a bit more ambition. That's hardly what I'd call whining. Supposedly we do actually have money available, the club just felt they had done enough, which if true does leave room for criticism if as a fan you believe we haven't.

I understand your sentiments, but it hasn't taken Watkins to integrate into the A.Villa team.
I overheard someone comment that if we had signed Watkins he would not have been given a start with Ayew and Zaha starting up front instead.

You can't sign a player if he actually wants to play at another club, which was the case with Watkins preferring to go to Villa

I would suggest in Watkins case at Villa he is so much better than what they had hence the impact.

I used Watkins as an example of a player who did not need 11 games to slot into a new team.

Matty Cash, another player who was in the Championship last season has also slotted in well.
We purchase a right-back who has had a long-term injury and hasn't played since January and A.Villa sign Cash.

I generally agree with the sentiment, but the ITK posters don't create a false sense of expectation, it is those who take their comments to be some kind of "news" that does that.

I also don't know how any of us can say we have money available. Surely the club makes decisions based on guestimates of what will happen in the future and now, more than ever, keeping money in the bank must be a good business move.

Could have asked my son he has had access to these for several months now and you do not have to travel to report on players

Times have certainly changed and I had this discussion only last night.

Gone are the days when a manager or coach analysing the opposition attend games in all climes with a set of cards on which a football pitch is printed and they scribble the movement of players at set-pieces!

Welbeck has just been released and is available on a ‘free’ transfer.
This along with Clyne has Roy written all over it.
