Was he? Missed that. Nevertheless he still should have squared it. They obviously don't practice this in training.

Yep agree, they need to do a lot of practicing on how to score goals!

Yes, all the head down and blast away at the goal stuff is supposed to be for schoolboys, but it obviously applies equally to seasoned pros too.

From the few clips I've seen of the squad training, they seem to do nothing but crossing and finishing, attacking three v twos, and all the other basic attacking practices. I'd say that fits in with what we know of Roy's methods, that he coaches defensive shape, and allows off the cuff individual play going forward, which in our case equates to each individual standing still wanting it to feet before they dribble with it. I would be very interested to see if a new coach would work on attacking patterns of play instead - not guaranteed to work, but different to what we do now.

On PVA, yeah he was offside and VAR didn't need to get involved because he missed and the ball bounced back off him for a goal kick, but the replay showed he clearly was off. Which is piss poor really, as he was the widest player and could see all along the line and didn't need to go early.

There are SEVEN other clubs in the PL who have scored less goals than us.

Far to much generalisation goes on regarding this subject.
We have scored more than the seven other teams . But beyond that . It’s quickly written off how precise the finishing was at Brighton. When you consider how often our style makes our games short on real chances , it would seem it’s not a part of the game that we don’t practise enough, as we do score more than some others, and as the Brighton, game showed with some style at times.

Just imagine if we could combine our current brick wall nil - nil guaranteed defence with some clinically finished chances at the other end.....

I was also thinking along these lines, which makes PVA'a mistimed run and failure to square all the more frustrating. That would have been a very good goal indeed.

That’s the conundrum we have that can only be completely solved when we ever get a more talented and versatile squad than we presently posses. Regardless of who the manager is that is what they will need to make it work without going down the shoot trying to be better.

We're 8th in terms of shots to goals ratio, for what it's worth [Link]

I think because we sit so deep when we get chances they tend to be against stretched defences and so are perhaps clearer cut.

Interesting stats, however you can usually make statistics say whatever you want and lets be honest it's our so called strikers who can't score and clearly they do need loads of practice!
