Curious....what does it say about hose people who want Benteke to work hard? Fair question. In my personal opinion, his job is to be the focal point / link man when we have the ball and when we don't have the ball his job is to either hassle central defenders in his vicinity so they don't get loads of time to pick a pass or to plug up their passing channels. He can't do this if he's running around chasing everything without the ball (Cameron Jerome / Frazier Campbell style) and his job isn't to run the channels as we then have no-one in the middle to play the ball to. Hard work from a frontman for the sake of it doesn't make him effective. Hard work, like outmuscling the Burnley player to get on the ball and then pick just the right ball to release Sako for the goal, is the hard work I want him to be doing. This all just says that you have a different view of what "hard work" from our number 9 should be to others, probably including Roy given that Tekkers is most certainly now doing exactly what the managers wants (apart from stick chances away). Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune) |

If you're normally watching Airdrieonians then I can understand you thinking it was sublime. If on the other hand you've played football at any sort of standard you would probably think it was just a lob out to Sako on the wing. Nothing more! Originally posted by chateauferret

I think out thoughts are fairly irrelevent, we know he is not burying chances at the moment however the big questions are: 1) Is Benteke providing the work rate on match day that Roy has asked of him on the training pitch? If the answer to both is no then Roy will no doubt try a different striker as soon as we have one. My feeling from what I have seen is that he is working harder for his teammates and his link play has been good, however he still fails to find that killer position in the box which has actually been found a few times previously this season by Jimmy Mc and Sako. Some players have a natural instinct of where to stand depending on the angle of where the attack is coming from, others don't but I feel sure that he has now spent enough time on the training ground with Wilf, Andros and Bakary to know what is likely to happen when they are attacking so he should be reading those goal scoring positions better. I'd love to see him do what Lukaku did for Manure last night, that swivel and shot to take out two players is exactly what a big CF like Tekkers should be capable of.

May I also suggest you watch Luca's goal against Southampton. CB controlled the ball on halfway outwitted defenders and set up the attack down the right hand side. That my friend was extremely good hold up play! Is he scoring enough? of course not. Is he contributing? Absolutely

Is he contributing enough to warrant his 120k a week and 30mill price tag. Wayne Hennessey has contributed just as much as benteke yet earns 100k a week less and cost 27mill less.

Oh really big man so you think Bentekes performances have been way better than Hennessey, I'm comparing those two as they have both been our worst performers but one cost 3mill the other cost 30mill

Unfortunately you and jay jay have a hate campaign against Benteke. His goal ratio in the premier league is .39. Goals a game. If you want statistics as you keep on going on about them look up his stats. Played 34 games at villa 2012/13 19 goals 26 games. 10 goals 13/14. 29 games. 13 goals 14/15 Liverpool 29 games 13 goals 15/16 Palace 36 games 15 goals.16/17 17 games 1 goal. The stats show that he is not the striker you expect him to be. Many strikers go through a lean spell and it’s frustrating for the fans but it’s a fact it happens.
