This country is in a much better place than the one your s*** party left it in.

All you are good for is sniping from the sidelines but when you are in power you take us backward every time.

Hmm but it was still in a better place than the country they inherited from the previous conservatives - its almost as if... .political parties just implement policies that will garner them support until either those policies create a problem, or something else, like say a banking crisis, f**ks the pooch.

Conservative or Labour, Pepsi or Coke, the great lie that we really have a choice, when its just picking the lesser of two personal evils for most of us (or voting for someone you do think will represent you, but has no chance of winning a seat).

Good article...but I must have missed the part where it says 'even accounting for inflation' or 'inflation removed'

Looking at numbers as a % of GDP make them "real" numbers and so removes the impact of inflation. Also the link to his previous article discusses inflation adjusted absolute debt.

Aaahhh.... I didn't like to assume that was the case, but couldn't see it stated anywhere.

I shall bow to your expertise on the article and its methodology...still it made for an interesting read...as did the comments underneath it.

40 years. How long have we been in the EU and Germany been using it to their advantage?

So you think we shouldn't leave because we won't instantly benefit from it? How about us taking the time to restructure the economy and benefiting from it in about half a generation's time. Harsh I know but if we don't, their offspring will feel the effects of diminishing prospects, housing, imported and already trained labour. The whole straightjacket in other words.

I would have thought it was a good idea to fix the big structural problems with our economy before embarking on such a massive project such as Brexit which is a complete distraction from everything else. If we were booming and had a strong export industry and high levels of productivity and high levels of corporate investment and state investment in R&D I could see Brexit being a success.

Right now it's much more likely to be negative as it will be make our domestic economy worse as it's not fit to cope with something like Brexit and what's more it will be neglected for 4 years while the Tories mess about infighting.

Totally agree they did themselves proud and both talked a lot of sense.

All Boris said was that global warming will be solved, Islamic State defeated, that Brexit will be a success, but he offered no actual explanations as to how the Tories would do it. If you're saying that stuff you are really under an obligation to say how. Johnson didn’t. Instead all he seemed to offer was wishful thinking.

He also said little about Foreign Policy (he's the foreign secretary btw).

His comments about cutting taxes and raising public sector wages show he has as much understanding of economics either theoretically or empirically as a watermelon.

Vapid grandstanding.

I didn't hear it. Could you let me know how he said we shall accomplish all these things? Also if he hinted at how we might get a goal and a couple of points he may just get my vote

You know it. But one still has to make a choice based on all the experience and information you have.

I have never experienced a Labour Government that made me want to vote for another one.
