I do hope we go out to make it 4-1 after the 5-0 thrashing, no foot off the gas.

On another note you've got to say what a classy bloke Michael Clarke is. I've always thought he spoke well and was gracious in defeat as well as victory.

Yep....... the bloke was magnanimous in defeat and never gloated in victory.

Shame he will retire after the Oval test.

It is indeed Hoof. He was one hell of a player too. A great loss to the game of cricket as a whole.

And Lyth will go cheaply !

We are thrashing the Aussies.

Thought I'd just point that out, as every post you've made is negative. You're the only England fan with the hump for some bizzare reason.

I'd just like to make the point that being positive is not necessarily getting any nearer the truth of a situation than being negative.

People who are positive because they regard it as more important than negativity aren't really interested in the truth of a situation but rather just its presentation.

Personally I'm more interested in an analysis that conveys a balanced rationality.

I agree with both of you.

Quality bloke and player.

He'd be one hell of an overseas player for a county to get. I'd like to see him at Worcestershire. We need a more hate inspiring Aussie captain. The media are suggesting Smith - I reckon Warner would be the best choice for pantomime villian value.

I think that's highly unlikely as very few have reached the heady heights of captain of the number one ranked team in the world only to retire to the quiet backwater that is county cricket.

Paul Collingwood is one of the few who seems to be happy playing the local circuit after having lifted the World Cup

Ponting went to play for Surrey.

As did Graeme Smith.

I always thought Ricky Ponting was a reasonable sport too. The Aussies give it large before a series but on the whole you've got to say that they are pretty good sports on the whole. Glenn Mcgrath is another good example of a top bloke, definitely the sort of blokes you'd want fighting alongside you in the trenches.

I must admit that I read it as retiring from all cricket although he didn't actually say that.

I think he just said international cricket and I don't really see him as a big bash or IPL kind of player. That leaves the County scene as an option. He was always more of a test than one day player.

My view as well. But I was suprised that, according to my Brother who lives in Oz, he's not so highly regarded down under .

They probably want someone far more loud-mouthed and arrogant to put us poms in our place. They hardly want a reasonable and sporting man whose test average was around the fifty mark.
