The HOL just isn't as much fun as it used to be for precisely that reason. I really don't see the point in participating much these days. All the fun people left/got bored years ago. Bring back the morganistic and LiamC glory days.

Keep going Wisbech. You’ve rattled the moderator anyway. Thanks and I will. "Rattling the moderator" isn't my intention, so if he is then that's down to him alone. Nor is repetition for it's own sake but if false statements are repeatedly made then they generate the need to repeatedly counteract them. No-one need read either. I am very happy when you, and a few of the others, step in to balance things up.

'Yours truly' was accused of such in those referees debates which evolved into those dastardly 'Willo threads'. In the final analysis, some will view WE's contributions as a litany of hyperbolic hogwash perhaps with an element of 'Agent provocateur' whilst others will view them as as enlightened and erudite punditry from a bastion of good sense. WE and I are on opposite sides of the house on this subject but I respect his opinion and as far as I am aware he has argued his case free from any personal vilification. Certainly this debate has been at times pulsating, at other times febrile but certainly not saccarine. Edited by Willo (05 Oct 2019 11.46am) Thanks for the kind words. I read the "Willo" attack threads with some incredulity as they too seemed very childish and immature to me. People can disagree without the need for personal attacks or insults, but should they feel the need to do so I just let them go, secure in the knowledge that this indicates they have run out of arguments. The current political situation is of great concern to me and I worry about the potential path we are heading towards. Not just in the UK but across the western world. That Russia interfered in the 2016 US election seems well established and there are strong indications they also did in the UK referendum as well. Farage's connections with malign players make me very suspicious of everything behind the leave campaign. So I am not just interested in what people think, because that's pretty easy to understand, but much more in why they think it. Where they have got their "information" and why so much of it is based on what I regard as propaganda. Anyway I have a game to watch!

I respect his opinion too but I don't respect his need to shove it down our throats every fifteen minutes I don't. I respond to other posts which I believe often make false claims. I tend to do that in bursts of activity and can type very quickly. I haven't, for instance, posted anything before 5 pm today as I have had other, much more important, things to do. Everyone other than you has no need to read if they choose not to. Even you could ignore them if you chose to. I am a "safe trader". You can be sure I won't insult anyone.

He doesn't debate though. It's quite hard to debate with brick walls. I can, and do, whenever I find flexibility and a willingness to reflect and consider. Most of the time all that comes back are already discredited opinions, recycled propaganda and insults. It's difficult to have a decent conversation when that's all that faces you!

The amount of posts yesterday is something else. The majority, from memory, were with just one poster so would have been better kept private I suppose but that's not all down to me!

So I get quite annoyed by this "EU army" routine that resurfaces every couple of years (Every couple of days lately!) What was suggested is that EU armies work together to protect the borders that need protecting. So we all signed up for the "European Intervention Initiative". Its a bunch of countries wanting top work together for a common cause, IT IS NOT AN EU ARMY. If you object to our troops potentially defending EU borders then cool, you could definitely make that argument if you are anti-EU, but the idea that the EU is going to have its own army is a flat-out lie
