Ok so we lost against a team far far superior to us in all respects. However what I saw was every member of our team doing their best and working extremely hard. The fact is we are nowhere near good enough to beat a team like CITEH playing the way they are. So let’s all chill out and save our criticism for when we lose to a team we have a chance of beating. COYP

This is the same world beating city team that managed to just overwhelm Brighton 1 0 in their previous game ?

The difference was that Brighton actually tried to have a go with more possession and shots.

However the game was effectively lost when Zaha didn’t play.

Man City were far more wasteful against Brighton, De Bruyne missed to far easier chancers then the goals yesterday before Foden score they then missed more in the second including the penatalty. Could easily have beaten Brighton 4-0.
To be fair to Brighton they hold on to the ball well so usually compete better with the bigger teams/ They don't create chances though and have drawn at home with both Sheff united and West Brom so so do we really want to follow their tactics?

He’s a good keeper but the panic within the team rubs off. It was the same problem Butland had at Stoke.

and they got relegated!

Why did I waste my evening watching that?
Was that another game without any shots on target?
With how many millions of striker talent on the bench?

Brighton lost to these guys 1-0
Similar story with Liverpool.

Yes we were always likely to lose without Wilf and the team were tired after the draw v Arsenal but we have become the club that good teams play to sort out their goal difference. It is worse than Pulis. Hyperbole? Remember he had very little talent in that team.

I've gone from anger to resignation. It is clear what is needed. Because of the weakness of the bottom 3 teams we'll probably avoid relegation battle this season. Problem is - a new squad AND a new manager is risky - but actually an opportunity. Which we will probably stuff up!

COYP!

I see our players observed the social distancing rules last night so nothing for the PL bosses to worry about.

We never got near the City players.

Fvck the tactics all I saw was a group of players that were old, tired and couldn’t compete.

The last time we kept trying to go at a team of that level we conceded seven.

The plan would be to try to stay in it until the last ten and try to nick something. No more no less. Townsend’s mistake and Gundogan’s strike put an end to that. Once they’ve got the pressure off they’ll kill you.

Yep. Realistically with the resources we have available (even if that included Wilf and Schlupp) the best we could expect after the first half was to stay in the game as long as possible and hope to get a chance to score.

Yes we got results here the last two years but our squad (as Willo regularly reminds us) is ageing and creaking and that's NOT Hodgson's fault.

Also, for those who were asking why we didn't have any youngsters on the bench, I would say again:
- the U18s played on Saturday
- the U23s are playing at 1.00pm today.
Consequently, the likes of Pierrick, Banks, Woods and Matthews etc are better employed consolidating the clubs position in their new leagues.

The next 7 games are the ones that really matter - not last night's.

Finally, when asked what he put the performance down to, Pep answered quite simply "the quality of the players". Exactly.

I would of loved us to play last night the way Brighton did at Man City. They actually held the ball well and passed to their own players unlike us last night. Appreciate at this time we have more points than Brighton but the set up last night which wasn’t totally wrong was spoiled by our players making mistakes and the inability to be able to pass a ball to a fellow player. We used to be able to play like Brighton against the bigger teams but alas our ageing players can’t do it anymore. Sadly Brighton will eventually finish above us this season in my opinion unless we bring in a couple of younger quality midfielders and push up the field a bit further so that they support the forward play as well as the defence?

The midfield in this team is truly awful. Why oh why do we keep playing the same players. Why was 33 year old James McCarthur expected to play the full game with 3 days rest. Why was it necessary? Especially when we have Riedewald sitting on the bench. The jury is still out on Jairo for me but at least he tries to pass. Our ball retention and passing is totally unacceptable for elite premier league players. However our manager has his favourites and theres no accountability. Keeping possession of the football is not a key requirement of a Hodgson midfield. You can only blame the players for so long -why is this not being addressed by the management. Same old over and over again.

I didnt expect anything from the game, however the manner of the defeat and performance was pathetic.

It will be instructive to see how we go about these games. I don't expect much of a change from the 11 behind the ball and hope to nick an opener style play, Hodgson doesn't know anything else.

"Hodgson drew plaudits for his work with the team and Finland were praised for well-organised defending but criticised for inefficient attacking – five of Finland's 14 qualification games ended in 0–0 draws."
Not a lot changes.
This season has exposed the lack of quality in an ageing squad; looking at the table we have managed to beat the bottom 3 and the other newly promoted team, but have done less well against those directly below us. The next games we really do need to do better.

Playing one of the world's best teams, without our best player and with only 3 days rest, the result was a foregone conclusion.

That said, it really isn't much fun watching our team these days. What is more depressing is the fact that we have very little to look forward to; just more of the same.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

100%. Many City are on a different planet to us. Doesnt mean we cannot at least pretend that we are a premier league team ourselves and do the basics like pass the ball to each other. Like you say, ground hog day every week. Same players, same performances. The apathy sweeping through this club is awful.
