The incidents were identical with Benteke's right arm making contact with the player.

Having produced a 'Yellow' for the first incident one can understand why the referee brandished a 'Yellow' for the second, which of course had to be followed by a 'Red'.
The referee was certainly consistent and supporters keep calling for consistency from referees.

In the interests of NOT turning this into a Willo thread I shall make no further comment on the decisions taken by Mr Coote.

Did 'Mark' write that for you?

I'm surprised you even saw the incident after throwing your toys out of the pram before the game at your disgust of the lineup.

Fans do call for consistency but I'm sure you're smart enough to work out that nobody wants consistent poor decisions.

Yes, our defending has gone down the pan we encourage teams to flipping cross the ball, Liverpool will be salivating themselves to death.

Tompkins isn't getting a look in whilst we consistently play an (alleged) midfielder as a centre back. It started out OK when he needed to stand in, has run his course.

A refs first job is to make the correct decision. Which he failed to do, consistently.

Willo - the Referee was not consistent last night in my opinion - with Benteke maybe but on other "fouls" there was no consistency for either side throughout the game.
He is without doubt at best mediocre and what I would class as a textbook Ref which is no good in todays game.
Also given he didn't see fit to penalise Pickford a few months ago for GBH on Van Dyke then he should be ditched now.

Results suggest otherwise.

Apart from the Burnley goal, Kouyate has been solid as the back. No idea why you say '' alleged '' midfielder but Kouyate plays CB at international level.

And what this has to do with allowing crosses into the box, I don't know.

Agree with this but I do feel that part of the reason(s) were his lack of options and the players around him. As we improve the quality of team, Eze and his undoubted ability will benefit greatly because he clearly has the potential to be a cut above.

He still has the flashes of brilliance and incisive defence splitting passes, we just need him to work on and improve some of the weaker parts of his game, which I am sure he will do.

Most of Eze's passes were short one's that he under hit. He's still a work in progress but he has huge potential and we look a different team with him in it.

But the first was never a yellow, fact!
The 2nd occurred because the defender was late getting to Benteke and, possibly deliberately, headed his arm. Watch it again very clear.
Ogbonna’s reaction of clutching face on the first one was outrageous, his arm made as much contact with Benteke, watch it again, fact!

If you watch Kane play, then on the basis of how that ref interpreted the law, he would be sent off every single match. Now I’m not sure the powers at the FA would like that very much.

Surely you can’t defend consistently poor decisions.

I said alleged because his touch lets him down as a midfielder time after time.

He does play CB at international level which leaves questions as to why he has been played in midfield consistently by your hero Roy.

Fact is, that he's not really a specialist in either position. His been largely a poor to average signing. He's not done anything of note in his time here and plays in two positions where we have plenty of back up. He is an argument of why Hodgson shouldn't be trusted in the transfer market, as no matter what we need, we'll try and sign another defensive midfielder.

You love taking things out of context or being willfully ignorance. If you read the posts you'll see I said I think Kouyate was ball watching and should have cut out the cross. It wasn't a great cross and drifting away from the goal. Haller had time to turn and react. All Kouyate had to do was take a couple of steps forward, but he just stood rooted to the spot.

Tompkins hasn't got on the pitch yet this season... so I'm how you draw a comparison between results with and without Tompkins... I don't know.

Exactly my read on the second yellow - Benteke had positioned himself below the ball and jumped for it. The opposing player was arriving late and jumped into the challenge and got caught as a result.

How on earth that merits a second yellow is ridiculous as the West Ham player was out of control and got a small knock as a result of poor positioning. Then again he was probably looking to get Benteke sent off as per team orders at HT as Moyes recognised the referee was a card happy mug.
